Hi Lisa, welcome.

MJ for arthretic pain? Have arthritis myself & joints seized up, move around, swell etc etc & I find that MJ helps with the Pain & mindset towards that pain.

I'm also of the opinion that mj doesn't actually fix the pain, rather it simply 'takes your mind off" long enuff for it to give one some relief & that's what the meds do too, they do not make it go away they simply take your mind of it. Nor does it loosen up joints, trust me. Only exercise and meds/surgery, will do that. IMO. some info on that here

And JJ is right on the money, try a vaporiser, thinking of going that way myself because I DO smoke. And the food is great..Canna Butter is prob the most popular method, goes into everything. You need a lot for that tho and unless you grow yourself it will be expensive.

Check the site first tho, prob info on here!

Good luck

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to the community

I also use cannabis to assist with pain management. I have to agree with Juli

"........helps with the Pain &. mindset towards that pain. I'm also of the opinion that mj doesn't actually fix the pain, rather it simply 'takes your mind off" long enuff for it to give one some relief "

When I'm in constant pain, all I can think of is the pain. Sure the pharma meds help manage the pain, but the cannabis allows my mind to focus elsewhere.

So for me cannabis is part of my pain management regime, not the complete answer but part of my regime. Sure they can give stronger meds both for pain and the mindset but these cause some nasty side effects which can be more difficult to manage than the pain. Cannabis works for me.

I'm a smoker and for me smoking is most beneficial. I bought a vaporizer and I've made cookies but neither have the effect I need. I do like my hash as well but this welds my ass to the lounge and when my pain is most severe, hash is my medicine, but trying to function when I'm hashed up ain't possible. I've recently made a tincture which has worked really well but I've been laid up and haven't needed to function whilst using it. Using the tincture hasn't just fogged my mind, I've been in a bloody snow storm, which has been good for me at this time. I need to work on the dose sizes of tincture. Its also good for stealth, you can't smoke in hospital safely, but you can have a bit of tincture mixed with coke and nobody knows.

You need to find what works for you, everybody is different and what works for me may have no benefit for you. I do not suffer from arthritis (and the only joint pain I have is when the paper won't roll properly.) So just because you are not a smoker doesn't mean there isn't another option for you to use Cannabis to manage your own pain your way. Only you can feel the pain and only you can manage that pain in a way that assists you to live your life your way. Give it a shot, it can only help.

Hi lisa4, welcome to ozstoners!!! lol

I have a form of arthritis called Ankylosing spondilitis....it is a progressive bone desease that fuses all the joints in your body....starting in the hip with the sacroiliac joints and moving up your spine fusing all your verterbrae together...All your nerves run thru these joints and as they start to get crushed with the fusing, the pain can be tremendous....walking can be a problem and some days i am unable to almost move due to the pain i get from it..Sleeping ..well thats a bad area for me ..i am lucky to get 4 hours a night due to the pain..i find the sleep deprevation hits me the hardest( especially when you also work 50+ hours a week!!)

This last 6 months have been the worst i have experienced in the 20 years i have been living with it..and i have had almost 5 weeks off work with it in total...

"AS" has no cure hence the "progressive" lol. Anti infammatries and pain killers(oxycotin/tramal/codine) are all that have been pescribed to me and i decided many years ago i was not gonna stay on that merry-go-round!! All have bad side effects.. eg..my anti inflammitries can cause ya kidneys to fail over time and also fucks with ya blood pressure! I dont get any negative affects with cannabis ..only POSITIVES!!!!! There are some new anti-body treatments, but i am to far gone to have them make a difference.

I have been a recreational smoker since i was around 14,,but soon found that the cannabis i was smoking made the pain alot easier to deal with and that set me on my course!!

I was lucky to live in the Netherlands for almost 8 years where i had accses to medical grade cannabis.Over that time i came to relise that cannabis was my saviour!!! I tend to smoke and grow indica dominate plants as i'm looking for more CBD'S than THC. Not to say i dont enjoy satis.. lol..

Over the last year i have cultivated the following strains-

White Russian- this is a hybrid of AK-47 and white widow..it was quite medicinal but was a bit heady at the same time

Cheese- this was extremly medical..i barely took any medication while i was smoking this, and slept most nights for 6 hours +.

I also make hash from my trim and popcorn buds..smoking this in combination with the cannabis is the ulitamte medicine for me....not much pain and a good nights sleep!!

At the moment i am growing Afghan kush(100% indica) and puna budder(Affie x hawaiin)..i have found the kush to be the most medicinal strain i have smoked, and add some resin to the mix with it and it is better meds than any pharmacy could make!!!

I have 2 vaporisers..a digital volcano and a iolite portable..both are a great healthy way to ingest cannabis, but i find i need to really smoke my meds to get the required effect..so my bong is my prefered method ,but everybody is different!!

Good on ya for exploring this option...you may find you can toss ya meds in the bin!!

You should really talk to your doctor and specialist about the releif you get from cannabis(its all confidential!!) have them document it on your (Confidental)records. This can help ya case if you ever have any legal problem's arise from using/growing..you can at least prove you are a medical user!! Some doctors will not support cannabis use at all...some will..but you will know whats right for you!!

I hope this helps you get on the road to a more pain free life!!!

Reading this again I realised that I too am in need of the right plant. Love a sativa for the smoke but probably need a mix.

If I feel "up", I feel better generally & recall myself flying (for me) around the house and nothing hurt!

I think that may have had sativa in it. lol

If the pot is too much indica I find it actually accentuates the pain by making me feel really body weary and it hurts like hell!

I start to hobble & stoop & all gets worse. it just flows through the body & as I said, it hurts like hell!

Pity, when you're buying, you have no idea of the strain.

theres nothing i dont like about what ive read here...much love to the brothers and sisters in the Grow, and peace and relief to those suffering from cancer/lupus/RA and the other ails that befall us...2 time cancer survivor, and living with bodywide RA, i find myself at a loss for "good" people to talk to about not having the freedom of the medical dispensaries afforded to me in the US...id love to sit and speak a while...peace and love....Curtie~
