Hydroponic drugs found

AN ELABORATE hydroponic cannabis

set-up has been discovered at a property

south of Toowoomba.

Acting on a tip-off, Toowoomba CIB

detectives executed a search warrant at

a house on Gatton-Clifton Road in Hirstvale,

about 45km south of Toowoomba,

yesterday morning.

Toowoomba CIB officer-in-charge Acting

Detective Senior Sergeant Marc Hogan

said a system for growing hydroponic

cannabis plants was allegedly found.

“The facility had been established for

quite some time and it appears the property

was specifically set up for producing

cannabis,’’ he said.

The drug system allegedly included

areas set aside for mature plants and a

nursing area for less mature plants, the

detective said.

A tractor, trailer and facilities for

making hashish were also allegedly

found and confiscated.

Enquiries were being made interstate.

A 57-year-old man and a 69-year-old

woman have been charged with producing

a dangerous drug in excess of the

schedule limit, possessing a dangerous

drug, possessing property used in the

commission of a crime and firearms

offences.

Meanwhile, seven people have been

charged with a total 14 offences after police

executed 12 search warrants at properties

in Ravensbourne, Hampton and

Crows Nest yesterday as part of Operation

Gelasin.

Charges include six of possessing a

dangerous drug, one of producing a dangerous

drug, six of possessing a utensil

and one of failing to dispose of a syringe.

Senior Sergeant Mark Kelly said 13 mature

cannabis plants were found at a

Ryan Road property at Ravensbourne.

A 21-year-old man will appear in Toowoomba

Magistrates Court within a

fortnight charged with producing and

possessing a dangerous drug and possessing

utensils.

“This (operation) follows a joint traffic

interception operation with Crows

Nest police at Hampton on Monday,’’ Senior

Sergeant Kelly said.
