ROOR vs G-Spot bongs, would love to hear some opinions...

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm getting very close to taking the plunge & finally buying myself a piece of glassware that I can be extremely proud of.

Of course I'm quite familiar with the hype about ROOR bongs, and the only other brand that has piqued my interest is G-Spot. Like many others, I've seen the YouTube post where the dude hammers in a couple of nails with the G-Spot bong (See below if you haven't), as well as having diligently researched both websites... but I would really like to hear from some fellow Oz Stoners, no doubt there will be a few ROOR owners out there, but if anyone has any experience with G-Spot glassware as well I would love to hear some opinions & comparisons.

I look forward to an educated debate, so let the posts flow - the more the merrier!!!

Many thanks to all in advance,

Noizeboy.

Not sure if you're talking about german or american roor? As for G-spot i have only seen their stuff available to everyonedoesit and maybe grasscity. Which leads me to believe that they use cheap chinese glass etc.

Personally I'd recommend search a bit more on sites such aa

Aqualabtechnologies

highpriorityglass

chicokush

The stuff there will cost you a fair bit more, but the quality will be through the roof

Hello all,

I figured seeing as I started this thread I'd better at least provide a quick review/opinion of my latest piece of glassware.

As this was to be my first "serious" bong purchase, I allowed "price" to have the majority of influence over my decision, mainly because you can't just walk into a shop & browse through a sizeable range of bongs (sadly) to then decide which one you prefer. So it was a case of perusing pictures & comparing descriptions.

With regard to Frank Reynolds' post, I was most definitely referring to German Roor. In my humble opinion those Yanks have gone off on a strange tangent when it comes to matters of the sacred herb (excluding California), I must say I don't really "get" their methods!

In the end I settled upon the G-Spot "Flash Solid Tank Bong" from Ozbongs (see attached pics from website). First thing I noted once I got it was how solid it is, one could very easily bludgeon a person or two to death with this thing without the fear of even the slightest bit of damage. It is without a doubt the most solid bong I've ever had the pleasure of holding with my own two hands, it truly is a weapon! Despite being 400mm tall, the 133mm diameter (according to my verniers), 9mm thick base makes it rather stable.

The glass stem & cone are also rather robust, however the cone is massive! From the rim to the hole it is 30mm deep with the internal rim diameter measuring 20mm (the rim itself is 6.5mm thick). The hole itself is a good size, just big enough to be able to get a bamboo skewer through (I found I always had to drill out the hole a bit on a new brass cone to make this possible).

What I do find impressive is the shotty, I have always felt that the shottys on the standard garden variety Agung models weren't quite big enough as they don't really clear the chamber instantly (could take up to 1.5 seconds, may not sound like much, but when you're running out of lung capacity...). The shotty on this beast is 12mm in diameter, & it actually takes you by surprise the first couple of cones, until you get used to it!

However, as impressive as the shotty may be to a simpleton like myself, it must be said that its location leaves a bit to be desired! That leads us to the two things that I'm not too fond of, 1) water capacity, which then also affects 2) the shotty & more to the point the thumb that one uses to cover it.

1) Water capacity is less than half that of the Agung "Chong", for those familiar with this "benchmark" model (which has now become my back up bong), & as a result the water tends to discolour & then foul rather quickly affecting taste & filtering properties, necessitating frequent water changes... Otherwise the next issue becomes... well, an issue!

2) The shotty has been ergonomically located, any higher & one would need to move the hand above the "grip" to reach it, thereby partially gripping the stem itself with the top two fingers. Any lower & the following issue would become even worse: As the shotty is located on that kink, one's thumb gets splashed every time you release the shotty! Not a problem if the water's clean, but as we just discovered it won't be clean for long! And if one isn't performing frequent water changes, one can expect that thumb to develop a nice big, brown circle (shotgun wound!) - With an odour to match!

But alas, overall I am very happy with my purchase. I'm certainly glad I took the plunge!

If you've made it this far through this post to reading this line, I thank you very much for your perseverance & for sticking with me through this rant... I'll get off my soapbox now!

Good on you mate hope you enjoy the new purchase.

On a side note, dropped my worked glass cone piece about 2 foot onto a concrete floor. No damage =D Not even 9mm glass :P

Gotta be careful with some companies, they will say the glass is 9mm thick, but that is just when they start with it, once it's been blown out it may actually be much thinner in some bits, ie towards the base.

But i hope it gives you many a good bong rips mate
