Six held after bikie raids

16dec03

SIX people have been charged after police allegedly seized firearms and drugs during raids today on 13 premises, including a bikie clubhouse, in Melbourne's south-east.

Four men faced Frankston Magistrates Court today on charges including affray, serious assault, false imprisonment and aggravated burglary, police said.

Brendan , 30, Bradley, 39, Leon , 29, all of Hastings, and Michael , 39, of Westernport Marina, were remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Two other men, a 43-year-old from Tootgarook and a 40-year-old from Hastings, were charged with drug offences and released on bail.

Police said another two men, from Bittern, had been arrested and were expected to be charged on summons with firearms offences.

Victoria Police special operations group officers swooped on the clubhouse of the Hastings chapter of the Outlaw Motorcycle Club in Glendale Avenue, Hastings, about 5.15am (AEDT).

Simultaneously, 11 homes in the Hastings and Mornington Peninsula areas and a boat moored at Hastings Marina were also raided.

Officers allegedly seized seven firearms, including three shotguns and three handguns.

Cannabis was also found during the raids, police said.

The raids followed a series of serious assaults in the Hastings area over the past couple of months, Victoria Police Acting Superintendent Geoff Newby said.

"This operation was an outstanding success," he said.

"No-one was injured, no damage was caused and seven firearms are now off the street."

If they can tell us that cannabis was found why don't they mention the other drugs, or are the just trying to vilify pot even more? A biker gang would probably have a lab or two set up as well, the cannabis was most likely some personal smoke. It would be great if groups like the Outlaws found a better way to make an income, they are pushing cannabis reforms backwards.
