wade ounce
w.b.what's the cost of spagnum moss and how many good sized holes say 3ft by 2 ft can you do with it.? is spagnum slightly acidic.? i remember years ago when i used peat moss(i don't know if it's the same stuff) a friend told me to put in a bit of dolomite to bring it's ph back to neutral. from a hundred gram jar of water crystals which costs around 6 bucks i can do 10 holes at the reccomended application rate. with this i also add all perpose organic fert with trace elements fast release npk 11,4,8ureasulphate of potashsuper phosphatedecomposed stable manuredolomite. all this is added approx i month before planting. i generally keep plants in pots until sexed.4 inches mulch spent sorgham stubble. and that's it apart from a shitload of water.i also reccomend mthly nitogen and potassium teas. only around drip line. do not foliar feed with urea. it will burn them. Guest Wilderbud
Sphagnum is about $7 for approximately 2L [1 pack per hole] - you buy a thin packet of it and it expands. I honestly dont know the PH as I never worry about PH outside - You can soak it and retest the water to see what it does before using it. I cut sphagnum up one day [never breathe any dust in when gardening] and it grew again so you can probably do this if you want - test it first as I was pretty stoned at the time - Im sure it regrew though. It looks like short thick roots or white seaweed and its made in New Zealand. Dont saturate the soil with sphagnum as it does take days to dry out and its expensive - I mix it with the soil and keep it at the bottom of the hole to stop a plant from drooping. Any root that touches sphagnum are the healthiest of the bunch so mix it well or one side of the plant might get more water than another side. Soak your soil for a week then do a PH test if you want to be a perfectionist - Ive never seen nute problems with soil so I dont think PH is as important as when using hydroponics.
