Rattys outdoor run.

Recommended Posts

Hey stoners,

Well spring is finally here - sort of & its time to up-pot & move my little ones out into the bush.

After previous outdoor experiences here which were worse than pitiful thanks to the crap acidic soil around here (around 5PH in most spots), i decided to try growing in pots. Initally i had thought of growing in regular 30L pots, cut their bottoms off & place the pot on the ground on a shallow bed of potting mix so the roots could have room to expand. However the pots were just too expensive at on average around $10 ea plus the effort of cutting the bottoms off or drilling holes in the bottoms.

Then i saw the Vegie bag on 1 of the gardening shows on the TV & thought they would be better. Lighter & when not in use can be folded up nice n neat. The vegie bags also have holes in the sides & bottom already. Being above ground should mean that they'll absorb more of the daytime warmth & therefore do a little better than in the ground plus i didn't have to dig 40 frigging holes :yahoo: :yahoo: The down side is they are going to have to be watered at least 2 times a week.

We have a very short 'summer' cycle here & winter comes in early & fast so every day of extra growth is a huge bonus.

I've filled them with a mix of 40% potting mix, 40% coco, 20% perlite & 1/2 a cup of dynamic lifter organic fert pellets, 30L of the mix per bag.

Unfortunately my cloning mum didn't survive the winter in the clone chamber so as much as i hate doing it i've had to do a seed run which also means double the number of plants i like to do. I did manage to scrounge up 6 clones from mates - a big thankyou to you guys.

There is a couple ingrid clones, shes the mum of the now pretty much lost CelticStone strain. There's also a couple of Afgan/ bubblegum cross clones. The seeds are mostly CelticStone with a few BlackDeath(CS strain)/ bubblious(nirvana) cross. The BD/bub stain is a cross i did a few years ago.

This is a temporary plot till i can do a bit of selective clearing & spread them out over the block. Fingers crossed they do well & the local pot hungry critters don't find a way into the enclosures. This year i'm going to put each plant into its own mini enclosure, no more loosing an entire plot to stoner possums! :jedifight

I'll post more pics thru the season.

Cheers, Ratty.
