Correct light for cabinet?

Recommended Posts

Being relatively new to this feed im in need of some expert advice. I have finally started to build my stealth cabinet.

Dimensions are 65cm in length 85cm in depth and 150cm in height.

this setup will house one intake at bottom of cabinet and one exhaust fan outlet.

wondering what type of exhaust i should use (size etc) and what wattage of light.

i really want a 600 hps but not sure if heat will be a problem. Do u think i should go for the 400 instead?

also wondering if someone can explain to me what a bat wing shades are and a brain box???

Hi there spider a 400w sounds just about rite for that size with a 600w u mite start to get a few heat problums but u would do better in the end with the 600w, with the air flow, to extract the air get a 250mm barthroom fan, and just have some passive intakes at the bottom, this is just to give u a quick idear a few of the other members here are better at working what is the best area size for ya light ya going to get, so yer thay will be able to help u out a little better than i can.

You can buy a good 10" extraction fan at a hydro shop for about $100. I would suggest you have a 5" fan [~$50] just for the light also to extract the heat from it constantly. Use external ducting for the large fan and internal for the light to seal off the light [~$50 worth of ducting, clamps and duct tape]. Your temps should be fine with this and you may be able to control humidity with the large fan. Cheap fans [ones that wont rate their CFM] arent as good at moving air - test them and youll see.

Tugboat has a cupboard thats about the same dimensions [ http://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners...wtopic=4124&hl= ] and he should be firing it up soon. Itll take a while for me to get everything else [400W and fans] but Im doing one thats similar also [ http://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners...?showtopic=4153 ].

PS. I like this design because it doesnt waste space. Youll probably want to duct the air out a window - make sure you cant see the light coming through the duct if you do this - 2M and 2 turns works for me with my large fan [needs upgraded and Im only running a 70W so far - heh].

True, but the sun is several million kilometers away in space, and there is a whole planetary atmosphere and surface to absorb a lot of the heat produced... it's a bit different in a cabinet...

The 400 would do okay, but make sure your venting is top notch. As pipeman said, it's a bit short on head height, but there are plenty of grows out there which are this size, and are great little green machines. :P

I agree with Black_one on this unless spider wants to use an air cooled hood a 400w HID needs about 45cm clearance above the plants, 10cm for reflector and fittings and the pots would take up another 30cm. That means that half the grow space is taken up and the ventilation would need to be very powerful, a 250w on the other hand would give a little more grow space and be much cheaper and easier to ventilate, and quieter too.
