Hi there.

when I started out I bought seeds from the seed company planet skunk.

http://planetskunk.com/

there are many other seed companies to choose from in the seedbanks section.

If purchasing through an Aussie site, there is no customs so you are pretty much garunteed to recieve your seeds however you should not order to your own address & you should use an alias. If buying from overseas you should be more cautious.

Choosing the right strain is purely personal. Each has their own different feel. For beginning, you could go with something cheap and then move up from there.

http://overgrow.com has a strain guide. You can read peoples reports on how they grew the particular strain. It is very informative and also has photos as well.

Get some seeds out of a bag of weed. They'll be totally variable in type, and you'll get a good spread of different varieties.

Are you from Oz? Depends on the area but some good places to go to get seeds are:

Adelaide if you want indoor varieties.

Canberra (try porn or fireworks stores to pick up weed!).

Nimbin. (See my other posts)

Anywhere on the NSW North Coast for good outdoor types.

And don't listen to the anti-male anti-hermaphrodite propaganda--> grow every plant you get out to its full potential, select the ones with the best characteristics, and take the seeds from ONLY these.

Australia has enough genetic varieties of cannabis for you to start your own grow. Just make sure that you don't let the genes go stale: always breed new varieties into your gene pool. (sorry Kog but IMHO inbreeding leads to crappy plants; hybrids are the go!)

You can buy off seedbanks but since most (not all) of the European seedbanks base their genetics from high-Indica types, often the plants grown from these seeds require large amounts of water and suffer from mould problems late in the season. Also their prices (>$100 AUD for ten seeds) are prohibitive for getting lots of seeds.

And give them heaps of TLC and they will explode in righteous green growth! Have fun!! And spray, spray everyday, Making the customers pay as the plants grow all day!!

But if you want quality genetics, you need to find THE GROWER.

A mysterious character, THE GROWER is often found lurking in the bush, gloating over his ill-gotten gains or sweating after a three kilometre run with helicopters in hot pursuit. Sometimes seen going repeatedly to the greenhouse in the backyard, or under his house carrying large amounts of electrical equipment....................

But seriously, get some seeds out of some good weed off a friend. Talk to your dealer and see if he can get the seeds out of the bottom of a pound or something.

And never, ever show ANYONE where your plants are growing. And spread them around, so if one crop gets busted, ripped, stolen etc. you still have (multiple) backups.

IMHO there are two main varieties of plants you get from bagseed:

Sativa dominant.

This comes from seedy weed (>10 seeds a gram) of the bush variety, bud colour ranging from brown to light green with not many pistils.

Plants grown range from hempy, lanky dark-green plants to pine-lime sativas and black buds. These plants grow tall (>10 ft if you don't watch it). A smoker's smoke, but not the best for sale.

Tends towards hermaphroditism. Leaves are very long and skinny. As branches are not very strong, plants should be snapped, tied down and trained to stakes to avoid branch snappage in bud season. Otherwise they flop over when they get heads on them or get wet. Hack em back. Somehow these weird bitches like the maltreatment. Be mean keep em keen!

Indica dominant

Comes from high-grade buds with colour ranging from yellow to red-gold with large numbers of pistls. Very few seeds in buds (<5 per gram).

Plants grown from this sort of bud are almost all indica or indica hybrids, reaching a maximum height of 3-4 feet over a season. They are squat with very dense buds, and tiny leaves, and almost all plants from this type are female.

Good for breeding and hybridisation. However, due to high bud density, they often get mould problems late in the season. But you get smoke which is sellable if it didn't get mouldy, and really sends people straight to Cloud 9.

Hope I've been of help.

Bah - its hard to fuck up outdoors. Grab some quality feminized seeds and plant [1'x1'x2' hole] in good organic soil [peat + compost + blood and bone is a nice mix at ~$5 per plant] then water daily until theyre a foot tall. Dont waste time watering shitty male plants. :P

I wish I had some outdoor space to grow this season - I suck at hydroponics. :P
