Coroner: Lamar Jack ingested chemical found in fake marijuana before he died

Anderson University basketball player Lamar Jack died after ingesting a chemical that is a key ingredient in synthetic marijuana, the county corner said Saturday.

The lab testing and analysis revealed that Jack had the chemical JWH-018 in his body when he collapsed during a preseason warm-up with his team on Sept. 30.

Just days later, on Oct. 4, Jack died. He was 19.

On the basis of an autopsy and the toxicology test results, Coroner Greg Shore is ruling Jack’s death accidental — caused by “acute drug toxicity with excited delirium that led to multiple organ failure.â€

The chemical found in Jack’s body is used to make fake pot, a classification of substances that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration calls synthetic cannabanoids.

Those substances purportedly consist of blends of exotic herbs and plant materials that have been sprayed or coated with other chemicals.

When they are ingested or smoked, they produce a feeling of euphoria in the user.

“The chemicals can affect each person differently,†said Dawn Dearden, a spokeswoman for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

“They can cause either reduced or increased heart rate, changes in blood pressure and nausea. They can act as a depressant or as a stimulant, depending on the person who is taking them.â€

The coroner said Jack had complained of having cramps and vision problems just before he collapsed on campus.

When Jack was rushed to the emergency room, he had an “extremely elevated body temperature,†the coroner said.

Jack’s father, Patrick, found a black packet labeled “Tease†“herbal incense†in his son’s car after the young student collapsed.

The young man’s mother, Karen, met with an Anderson police officer and asked that investigators analyze what was inside the package.

Karen Jack spoke to police on a Monday night. By Tuesday morning, her son was dead.

It was hard for his father. But he said something almost immediately after that, after he absorbed that initial shock.

He said: ‘I hope my son’s death will help educate other people. I hope his death will spare somebody else’s life.’â€

Tragic story, but now, more importantly is this stuff similar to what we know as Kronic? ... herbal incenses, chemical JWH-018 ?

watch out or the Prohibitionists will use this death and another similar one previously, to smear and to try to say it was Cannabis, generally confuse the facts and generate fresh fears of "marijuana"

:peace:

Heya Frazz =),

it's not the first time JWH-018 and other synthetic cannabis has been linked to peoples deaths. Here is a link to a good wiki page on the different types of synthetics, it shows that as certain types of synthetics get banned, the active ingredient is modified to bypass the ban and come out as a new product.

In samples from New Zealand of these products 37 out of 41 samples contained JWH-18 among others.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_cannabis

Kronic is pretty much the same as Spice though the active synthetic cannabis compound may vary slightly, depends whats been banned in that State/ Country.

They label this shit "Herbal Incense" and I think it's to protect themselves from legal reprecussions in the event of a death like this example.

You can't take a Cannabis, synthesis the bit that gets you high and leave the rest out, there are active compounds in Natural Cannabis that protect your body and even out the effects, synthetic cannabis has none of these, and I think this is the problem. System overload for your body.... and your mind.

I don't think it's worth the risk. Imho. Please check out the link. there are even pictures of the Chemical components of THC v's Synthetics, interesting.

Condolences to the American boys family, a terrible way to loose a son. Sorry for your loss.

Prohibition causes people to turn to these substances and it's not right.

People should have the choice as to which they want to use, Natural or Synthetic, but until this Prohibition ends, deaths like this unfortunately won't stop.

I for one will enjoy Mothers Natures gift over some money hungry dicks product that does more damage than good.

Natural Cannabis related Deaths- 0 since the dawn of man . Synthetic Cannabis deaths- Rising weekly.............. you be the judge. Peace. Gh72

Heres a thought..................... I noticed that most of the people who have major problems Psycho-actively and Physically are first time tokers, or relatively new to it or only smoke occassionally, while seasoned daily tokers seem to be OK. Could this have something to do with the fact we have the other components of natural THC to compensate for the lack of it in the Synthetic version?......... Interesting................ Peace. Gh72

I find it hard to believe that he died from a "toxic overdose" of whichever synthetic it was if he was able to function afterwards i cant see how this could happen ? It is all out of your system in a few hours.

The synthetics are dangerous though, they are far too strong and if he was playing with the pure powder then maybe. It is scary to think how a tiny pinch of the powder could be too much and cause a freak out, vomiting etc, Essentially a "super-fuck-off-crazy-green-out" even having just too much can cause extreme anxiety. However in moderation i think that the effects were probably better in many than a lot of the commercial buds gave a nice buzz and no noticable "come down" from it. Nothing compared to the homegrown i have had through my time though.

anywho just my two cents, i find it hard to believe smoking some synthetics killed him, unless maybe it interacted with other medicines or something
