Mushroom compost, to strong for seedlings?

I am a avid gardener, and with all of my plants (non mj) i plant them straight into mushroom compost and they just take off. I was told by a friend that mj plants don't take well to the mushroom compost. Is there any truth in this?

I would never put a seed straight into it as that would just burn the seen, however once the seedling has established I would transplanting the seedling into the compost be to much for it? With all plants I always try and transplant with a bit of the original soil as to not send it into shock.

 

Anyway, yeah, has anyone ever tried the mushroom compost? Did your plant succeed or fail? What was your overall thoughts?

I just put 4, 1 foot seedlings into straight mushroom compost.

Burnt the shit out them.

futher research into it, it can have a high content of salt in it.

cant be good for the plants.

So dug it out and replaced it with normal compost seedlings looking heaps better now..

I mix in a fair bit of shroom compost with other soils , composts and manures and never really had a problem... Mushroom compost is made in heaven , it's the bomb

But yeah wouldnt be putting it straight in as seedlings can be a bit temperamental

Imixed proberly 20/1 pottingmix mushroom in the pots im doing

there booming no sign of burning.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Once I find some seeds (still trying to find bud as I have just moved) I will make sure I do a mix of the compost and the potting mix.

i mix a lil bit of mushroom conpost , just to sadd to me own compost , ive herd itr can make the soil to salty , ( somthing like that , but a lil is good from wat ive seem, i might try a crapy seed in 100% MUSH COMPOST see wat hapens , Edited October 29, 2011 by smashed1

A mate of mine swears by local mushy compost at an 80% mix with native soil, i think it comes down to where the compost is sourced and what the mushy farm put in it, this is 100% organic, he transplants seedlings when their root ball is solid and they boom...

I am gonna do a few different grows with it shortly, i will post a grow diary as i am a novice grower, hopefully it helps others like me not make the same mistakes
