Basement setup.....

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of places I could grow, and I was thinking about the basement. No-one around here really goes down there, even if so they couldnt see it because its really dark in there even with a flashlight.

The only problem is that my basement is not really that tall. maybe 3-4 feet? Would that be enough room? This is really my first time to grow. I was thinking of making a box, that way it wont be as noticable either.

But anyways how much lighting should I have, how long should I keep the light on and off? Also about what the temperature should be? Right now I really just want to try to grow one plant. If you could help me out i would appreiciate it! thanks

yeah 4 foot high is enough to grow some good bud, you'll probably need to scrog though to get a decent yield. as babybear said ventilation is important particularly if its damp down there, you don't want mould.

DWC would be a good system to save on head height, if in dirt you could dig a little hole out to set your buckets in to give you a bit more room. Or, you might think about doing a run to waste if you got somewhere good to discharge.

personally I wouldn't want to grow in a basement 4 foot high just because of the pain in the ass factor of moving around down there. but, maybe you're a dwarf....

In a space that small I would suggest using soil....like the pipe said, you can get more growing space by digging a hole to place your container in but be sure to line the hole with an insulating material like styrofoam so that the roots dont get too cold.

Your biggest problem will be the ventilation, you'll need a constant supply of fresh air and in the flowering stages of the grow the exhausted air can become quite smelly and attract some attention.

If you can address the ventilation issue , I cant see why you should have any problems growing a plant or two.

Acually, I went down there to check and look around. Its alot bigger than i thought. In the far corner away from the door to get to the basement, way back in the corner directly under my room its about 5 to 5 1/2 feet since my house is sort of on a hill.

And there are 2 vents going to the outside in that corner, the ony thing I am worried about is it happens to be a corner that faces the road and if durin the night hours i have the light on you might be able to see the light.

The ground is dirt but has a plastic sheet over it. I was thinking of finding a pot big enough and dig a hole and set the pot in the hole, so that leaves me with about 5 to 5 1/2 feet for the plant to grow.

I was also thinking about cutting a hole in my bedroom floor undedr the carpet and put a trap door kind of thing so i can get to the basement through my room so my parents wont be suspisious of megoing ni the basement, this way they wouldnt see me go down there.

Well if you know a good set up down there for a couple plants, or a good setup that would work the best please help me out! thanks...

As far as light leaks being seen on the outside world, you can cover them easily with black plastic.

HID lights can really munch up the power...what will the parents say when they receive an electricity bill thats almost double the one they usually get.

You also have to consider the embarassment to your parents if your busted  , they will be grilled by LEO to find out what they know about your grow and it will be hard for them to prove they were ignorant to it. :D

They will suffer humiliation at the hands of smart arse detectives looking for a promotion so you have to decide if its worth it, even if it's only one plant your growing. ;)

well, im pretty young, but the main reason i dont want them to know about it is because i dnot want my dad taxing it from me. He smokes to . The hole in the floor would look normal since there is carpet over it,it wont feel any different since my dresser sits there, but its not difficult to move around.

Oh and we live pretty much out in the country, no cops out here, and we dont have many people come over.

I didnt think the lights will double it? Do I have to use that certain type of lights, i mean there are other lights i could use that wouldnt cost as much or use that much electricity, right?

mate, the less powerful your light is the less bud you will get. Its hard to say if a light would make a big difference in your parents power bill. Don't you like your parents? Personally I think its just wrong to live in your parents house, use their electricity to grow and then not share.

My advice to you is if you grow in your parents house you should share the harvest with your dad, or you should grow outside. If you get going quick there's still time to get some plants going this season.
