advice wanted.

Recommended Posts

hi siouxie,

i can't offer much knowlledge as far as indoor growing goes as i've only dabbled . but maybe i can help you with your odour problem.not yours sorry, ya mullies.lol. of course this will only work on outdoor odours. but you said it was your neighbour you were worried obout hey.

have you got a dog? i have a pair of staffies, and when being fed a high protein and carb diet they stink to the high heavens. i tested this theory theory a few years ago. i had ten stinky plants growing in twin cupboard.the smell reaked the house out. living in the main street of town at the time, i was worried about passers by getting a wiff. luckily i had a cool neighbour at the time, who i'd had a few sessions with. and i asked him if he could smell anything suspicious coming from my house. his responce was "all i can smell from your place is your stinkin fuckin staffies"

so there ya go if ya haven't got a dog ,get one.. oh and if the dog shits on the wrong side of the house ,move the turd around to your neighbours side, but do it at night. it might look a bit weird relocating poop in daylight

wade :P

hello everyone...

that price i quoted was just for the bulbs...so i am lookin to see how much the ballast bit is

i have someone to help with the construction of my room tomorrow.

i moved my cuboard down today, and drilled a hole throgh the floor board for electricy cord.

price for those fluros is just too good...so i will get them, and start my seedlind on those.i also did some clones today...but i don't know how they will go...i have never had any luck b4.......tho this time i popped a plastic drink bottle on top to make a little greehouse for them.when should they grow roots???

just wondering...has anyone ever got caught because they bought lights secondhand? i look very 'straight'z(no tatts /dreads/multicolour hair), so surely ppl buy hydro lights for other hydro plants???

sooooo....i think i will just get the fluros for now....and in 2 weeks...when the seeds should have opened...i will buy other lights then.in mean time...i will make up my set up...so i am sure i will still need ur advice.

:) ;) ::):

You'll be far better off buying a complete kit. You'll need a globe, reflector, ballast and lamp socket to start, and putting it all together if you don't have experience with electical items would be unadvisable. Ballasts designed for a 400w hps lamp won't run a MH lamp, and if you hook up the wrong ballast or lamp you could end up with a large problem, to say the least. Avoid problems, buy a lamp kit. You can get a good 400 w hps lamp kit for around 200 bucks, give or take. Some places are a lot cheaper than others, so look around. Put one on layby if you have to, most places should be able to do that. You don't want a kit which has an attached ballast to the reflector either, you want a remote ballast. The reason for this is that ballasts put out a lot of heat, and deal with large amounts of electricity. Having the ballast right next to the lamp, (which is bloody hot by itself anyway, and will be your biggest issue vis a vis heat) is a bad idea, for several reasons. Make sure you can have the ballast in a high, dry and well ventilated spot. The things are heavy, so make sure it's a sturdy spot too. You can use a foam pad or growool slab underneath to down out some of the vibration noise which can be heard coming from ballasts sometimes.

First security rule, tell no one. Just thought I'd remind you of that as you said you were ripped recently. Think not twice, but three times before showing anyone your plants or grow... this is the quickest way to get busted.

I'd advise you to make a single hole for electical lines into the grow in a high position. This will ensure that any water spills or accidents will have no way of getting to the electrical lines. Safety is a priority for everyone, better to smoke your buds, than your buds smoke you. Likewise, make sure that your powerboards are in a high, dry position. :)

Cloning is a pretty simple process, but there are a few tips which can make the process quicker, and easier. Check out the growfaq, and search the boards for cloning, there's a wealth of info on the subject here, just waiting to be found. ;)

Short answer to your question tho, without knowing anything else about how you're doing it, is between 4-14 days, with the average somewhere inbetween.

just wondering...has anyone ever got caught because they bought lights secondhand? i look very 'straight'z(no tatts /dreads/multicolour hair), so surely ppl buy hydro lights for other hydro plants???

I don't know anyone personally, but what did you say it was for? And yeah, there are many uses for agricultural lamps, I'm actually working on a small watt hps/mh growroom for my orchids in winter! And many other crops are grown under lamps indoors too, particularly in winter, as many growers use these for seedling raising before spring.

Still, I'd advise you to get a new one, if not for the warranty, then for the fact that you know you'll be getting what you pay for. There's no ombudsman for the trading post. ;) If you do go with a second hand light, then at least get a new globe, and check what kind of globe the light needs before putting it in there... (you wouldn't believe how many people do this.... :) )

Whew. Hope that helps. Have a good read before diving in and growing. Honestly, the best trait a grower can possibly have is patience. I know that's hard, but it will be more and more apparent as you go along that of all the things you give a plant, the gift of pre-planning is the best you can give. Take your time, you're growing indoors, so you'll have to buy a fair amount of items to get the grow room going well. Budget yourself 500 buck minimum, and you shoud have a decent growroom producing good buds for yourself. But most important is the patience, and the study/planning. ;) Just my tips and advice for ya, do with it what you will.

things are on hold for the growroom at the moment...because we r moving.been on that goddamn housing list for 3 1/2 yrs now...needing bigger house cause this one only has two rooms.basically...if u want the place- u take it straight away....we have 2 weeks to move!!!!!

but no reason not to complete box.bought two compact fluros today...is that enough???too much???they r 18 W*really bright tho????)

i guess the box is enough for now....god i really want to start growing inside!!!!!

new house has a few hidey holes....i will see it more tomorrow.its so much fun....this time we r painting b4 we move in...and adding more power points...housing commision are shocking for that!!!unfortunatly wont be able to grow outside at home...unless we can get them to build a 6 ft one like we got them to build here-apparantly thry will do all houses eventually...so maybe...

anyway...sorry6 for the prattle...just excited about move!!!!

i was out all day...and when i got home...my poor clones seem to have shrivelled...even in their little greenhouses....

should i give up(i am sooo freakin bad.....and i did everything u r supposed to!) and just use seeds in box???or try out clones in box???i guess what i am asking is will it be easier hydroponically to kill them or easier!!!!! seeds i have almost a 100% success rate....but i just cannot get the hold of clones...perhaps they r too small?????

cool, they are supposed too,

it means they are trying to grow roots so are using all their energy in the root dept not the vegatation dept.

as far as I have read anyways.

hmmm, okies that explains why whenever I use my propagator lid they always shrivell, but if Iam too lazy and just chuck them in perlite ie no cover etc, they dont shrink they just slow down growing.

umm actually no it doesnt, that means they are getting too much moisture then wouldnt it??

All i know is mine shrivell sometimes and others they dont.

dammit...and i got all excited about weekpriks comment...

last night i added more water....and they r still in their greenhouses.(the clones...)..but they look tired and sad..:).mummy is taking off tho...

bit worried about move....as i can't have plants outside any bigger than say 1 ft, or they will be seen...can soil plants have the soil washed off the roots in slow running water, then put in hydro setup???sounds too good to be true to me...but then mj is a really hard plant to kill once its established.

seeds should be coming by tomorrow...can't waut to start grow box...despretely want to show oiff my handy woman skills....but freakin dropped digicam charger,a nd now batteries won't charge.normal aa are not working!!!!!!!

washing roots has been ok for me on a couple of occasions,

but i read to add a few drops of oxyplus or similar, to the water then be very gentle about it and make sure the water is luke warm.

Those clones may still be ok, but I would remove the glasshouses now and spray every 4 hourly, with 1/2 flat soda water.

hard to tell though without pics, if they are wilted they should come up ok, but if they are damaged they will never recover.
