Hey siouxie sioux cf are ok but if u smoke that much pot it will take u twice as long to get a good harvest and u would have to run quite a few fluros to make it worth wile and at the end it wont be that crash hot anyway and in the end it would prob cost u as much to buy all those fluros as it would to get a 2nd hand 400w hps or maby even a 600w(i payed $90 for my 2nd hand 400w hps), and when it comes to smell( that is something i freak out about as well as i have a copper liveing two doors up from me)it can depend on what strain u grow some have heaps of stink to them and some have very little smell to them, as WP said u will need to work out are flow as well as the plants need freash air all the time, so have a good read through the FAQ it should answer a lot of your questions and if it dont just ask away and and we will help u out if we can. well...i think i will go 4 fluros...just to strat...i have seen an advertisment in weekend shopper, for 5x 4 ft lights for only $30....what do u guys think...this seems like a damn good bargain...

after looking at heaps of sites, i think i will go for growing them in coconut coir($3 for a brick that turns into 9 L of medium)...would seven b enough to start these plants(adding to it weekly if need b, as plants roots grow?)

now...about these different types of nutrient solutions....are the one step products just as good as 2/3 step???these seem to vary in price...i think i will spend $30 on 5/10 L to start( i am not sure how much i will need initially wither)

to start with, i will hand feed, though only again until i can afford more.it is such a shame i have to buy dope until i grow my own...lol

i have the pots, and i intend on having a 30 cm fan in there...will this be enough for the entire room(it will be up to 6x5x 1.5, depending on how much i need to grow to keep me in buds??

also...what do u ppl do with ur leaf...anyone ever used those bubble bags(that use ice and water to make hash???) are they just canvas bags, with smaller and smaller amounts of stiches per cm???

Get some perlite to mix with the peat if youre going to use that! BigW sells good stuff or Coco peat from a hydro shop is good too [especially the discs so you dont make too much peat up at once]. :P

I grew under 6x38W flouros recently and its definately not impressive although $30 is a good price for the light ballasts - theyd make good supplementary lights or will raise seedlings nicely - get new 40W bulbs if you buy them. If you can get a small cupboard thats long enough to fit the lights in it itd make a good seedling and clone cupboard for a corner of the room.

Buy an HID as soon as possible and instead of heavy canvas some mylar is good enough to light-proof the room and provide a reflective surface. Id get a clone/seedling cupboard going first as that can keep the plants happy for a few weeks while you sort the mylar and light out.

I wish I had your growspace - its nice to use a big room - especially if it had a manhole in the roof for an exhaust fan [reminiscing]. lol

I would recommend that you start in a small hydro setup, I grew my first crop in soil under fluros and it is piss weak. Im currently setting up a recirculating hydro gig. Its fairly cheap as you can buy most of the parts from discount stores. if your going to only half do it , then dont bother as it wont give much joy. Get a good setup from the start and add to it as you go. In no time you will be getting massive yeilds in no time at all.

id say hydro, 600watt hps, a few fluros for clones, fans/ducting and something to light proof the room. This should serve you well.....

I know how it feels to recive seeds and want to start right off but mate you should wait a lil wile and get setup properly.... You will look back on this time in a few years with a great joy in your heart knowing that you grew good plants.............

ok...u have all convinced me!!!!!i will go for the hps, i thought i would need so many more lights u see, that was why i was abit nervous

with searching online, i have found a place that has a special on lights at the moment...hps lights for 34 dollars each(400 watts).as i will be buying online...they are in nsw, and i cannot seem to find any in brisbane-even secondhand, i will wait until next week and buy 3, maybe four?

the reason for the canvas walls, is simply that i can get it by the roll for free.i am wondering if to cut costs(again just initially, if i don't start soon it will b one of those things i meant to do....), if i could make a reflective roof from aluminium foil?

another thing tho...cause i was looking at fluros b4, i am not sure how far to keep plants away from light...this may be a problem as it is only 1.5 m tall.(i have grown outside b4, and plants were up to 2 metres...easily.for my purpose, i wouldn't need them to get this big...tho i have heard(is this another piece of shitty info???) that plants must be a minimum of 3 ft to have thc in them?????

so...anyone have any hps lights for sale cheaply...lol( i wouldn't part with them either)does anyone know anyone that can beat that price for lights????or a similar priced place in brisbane???thanks all for your info...it is really gr8 that u lot know your stuff!

mate you need to settle down and start being a bit more careful otherwise you are going to land yourself in trouble. You have already given out your address and email asking for people to send you seeds. And now you are wanting to get 2nd hand lights off people on this site that you don't know. And putting a wanted add for HPS lights in the paper is not smart IMO. I don't know, maybe I'm over paranoid, but acting like this just seems dangerous to me. There are people out there that take great pleasure in seeing stoners getting busted, be careful you don't run into one of them.

PS - $34 would be for the globe only. A complete light kit including hood, light fitting and ballast will be around $200.

growing indoors is not a cheap hobby, as pipeman said thats for the bulbs only, set aside $500 before you can get a decent yielding crop.

If you have acess to the outdoors I'd just be planting up and waiting for outdoor harvest to free up your cash a bit so you can get yourself set up.

i wouldn't need them to get this big...tho i have heard(is this another piece of shitty info???) that plants must be a minimum of 3 ft to have thc in them?????

yeah that sure is shitty info, a plant that is 1cm tall could have THC in its got buds. A style of indoor growing called the sea of green involves flowering plants without growing them or after only growing them to a foot tall or so, you plant large numbers of plants and grow only the large main bud of each plant.

anyways, 1.5m will be a fine height for growing.

from a 400w you can get an ounce a week or more, but for your first indoor grow you probably won't, it'll take a bit of tuning your crop and money to get there, from your first 400w crop I'd say you would get 1/2 oz a week or so.

Anyways, my idea for your area is you should get a bunch of 200mm pots, enough to fill a square 1m by 1m on the floor (16 or 25) put seedlings in them and grow them to about 50cm then cut the lights, remove the males a week later or so, and cut the bottom of your pot, and plant the pot in another pot around 300mm to harvest. make a water holding tray for the plants out of panda film on a wood frame.

thats if you got no money, would only cost like 250-300 to set up ($200 for light), if you got money than its a different story.

what do u ppl do with ur leaf...anyone ever used those bubble bags(that use ice and water to make hash???) are they just canvas bags, with smaller and smaller amounts of stiches per cm???

yeah I used them a week ago, a very nice guy and growing legend gave me a try of them, they are just bags yeah, but very special bags, the holes are tiny, unseeable and draining the bags takes ages cos the pore size is so small, anyways, you can't afford them, check out the links in the FAQ, in pipemans signature above, click it, and read all the links through well. There is a few good ways to make hash in there as well, other people cook there trim and leaf up and make cannabutter, some make honey-oil, both of them are cheaper options for your leftovers than bubble hash. Anyways its early days to be thinking about that shit yet.

Don't worry about reflectivity and walls and stuff, its not that big of an issue, if you can put canvas walls up free then do it, but don't stress about it all, and yeah aluminium foil works well, use the non-reflective side. making the roof reflective is completely pointless as the light has a reflector that directs the light downwards.
