In an Australian first, the Victorian government today moved to give police powers to conduct random roadside drug testing.

 

Under legislation now before state parliament, from July next year roadside drug screening will be used to detect drivers affected by cannabis and speed with a saliva test.

 

Transport Minister Peter Batchelor said drugs were involved in 27 per cent of road fatalities last year.

 

"It clearly indicates that the taking of illicit drugs is a major factor of similar proportions as the over-consumption of alcohol in fatalities on our roads," he said.

 

"The police will be given this equipment as new tools in the road safety campaign.

 

"It will be targeted to times and locations where it has been established that there's excessive drug use."

 

The screening will require drivers to provide a saliva sample by sucking or chewing on a disposable test cartridge.

 

Mr Batchelor said the test was designed to detect the presence of methamphetamine (the active ingredient in speed) and THC (the active component in cannabis).

 

But he said it would not detect over-the-counter and prescription drugs.

 

The initiative will be evaluated after 12 months of operation.

Qld is on the way to bringing in road side drug testing as well. For the last 12 months Queensland Corrective services on behave of the Qld Police have been testing saliva kits at the West Brisbane Release to Work Centre at Wacol.

 

And how do I know? I was at the centre when they first brought it in. They found a flaw in the system were by lemon juice corrupted the end test rest. No doubt this has been fix.

 

Where do it leave us now? What is next random street testing for the use of drugs? George Orwell was so true in his book 1984.

That just is a total invasion of Privacy, Will testing positive to the test give the blue gang the right to a search warrant for our homes??

 

Also what is the tes actually testing? like if I was real stoned last night, but now im straight will it show up??

 

Im stressing over this cause Iam a professional driver and a Med user. So does this mean if I want to keep working ie driving that I have to live in Pain again??

last I read about these tests they showed positive up to 24 hours after use. Be interesting to see how they enforce this and how it can be challenged.

 

Since MJ remains in the system after you're straight it would be easy to defend any DUI charges IMO. Also, what if you were around people who were smoking MJ and breathed in some smoke the night before. Surely they can't bust you for this.

IMO the cops will probably do another blood test like a DUI, they do a roadside test and then if you are positive you go to the station for a more precise check, and as far as mj etc goes it will still show up in blood tests for many days to weeks after the last dose (depending on circum.) and I think there is an amount in he blood which is deemed as having an effect and it can be roughly worked out when the last dose was from metabolites also. It would be a similar situation in any state if a stoner got into a serious accident a tox screen would be taken at the hospital and alch. mj, etc would all be tested for.primarily to ensure no unwanted interactions between the intervention given by the docs and anything in the system

sounds fair enough, as long as they set a realistic threshold for the metabolites in your system. Which they probably won't.

I am not sure if that is how they calcul how long since your last dose it was just opinion but yes for heavy users it will probably not correlate very well between effect and amount in blood

sorry but im a little nervous lately as Ive just found out, that a mate I thought I knew, is actually a fucking mob member (not Mongrel mob for kiwis),

Ive had 3 unmarked cars drive in and out of my 3 house caldysac today and ive been out for most of it.,

 

I had a cop in a suit with a badge turn up asking for him also.

 

But Im moving in a week anyways, which brings another thought, how the fuck am i gonna move the plants? they are like kinda obvious .
