Hood-fan-filter order?

Recommended Posts

Hi all this may be a little confusing as I am high as s*%t and had a few drinks :P lol.

Ok well I have a few questions about how to position my fan to my reflector.

I was thinking of fixing my carbon filter to the top of my 4x4x6 grow tent with my fan positioned on the side of the reflector drawing air through the filter and pushing it straight into my reflector then out through a short line of ducting.

I am asking do you think this will effectivly exhast and cool my tent and reflector as well as killing the smell of growing?.

This saves on having to run three seperate fans

I am running a 600w hps for flower and I am just going to swap the lamp for veg.

Also can anyone recomend a decent 150mm fan to do this job thanks

Heya K :) , You can use a centrifugal fan at 150mm to do all that easy. Westaflex have some decent priced ones .

You might find putti g your fan and carbon filter outside the tent as high as you can get it, well, higher than top of tent is best.

I would run it like this. Reflector-ducting out of tent-150mm Centri fan-Carbon filter about 250mm x 500mm.

And yeah I know the fans work better the other way, but you'll need the room it takes up in a tent for flowering instead.

Run all me tent grows like that, still using the same fans. lol .

Check out our Cannaversity section on lighting and ventilation, some top advice in there. Peace. Gh72

Hey grasshopper thanks for the experienced advice I will consider that before making a decesion.

But I was thinking of having my fan attached to the reflector freeing uup some space and having the filter in the top corner out of the way. And I am only going to be using the tent for perso smoke so I don't have to worry about maximum production for ammont of space.

Again thanks for the input and I have had a look at those fans they seem to be what I am aftet but a question are they made for pushig or pulling air as I want to pull through filter as well as push air through reflector to cool :s

I am abit confused if this will be possible

Centrifugal fan should cool that space down well enough.. I run a a 150mm centri in same size tent with a 600w pushing air through the CF and have no temp issues.

Unsure of what you are trying to say, if you have a gap between the centrifugal fan and ducting or filter (open air) then it probably wouldnt work, as you would lose all the force from the fan to push through the filter, but if you just attatch the fan below the reflector, and have it pushing through the CF, id say the sucking force might cool the lamp down a little bit?

Personally I wouldnt bother, and have it all outside of the tent, if you are that worried about cooling the reflector get a cooltube.

Hope that helps :)

Hey burns nah I want to use one fan for cooling and exhausting air so I was going to connect ry filter with ducting to my fan, that fan will be connected right to the side of my air cooled reflector hood. I am hoping that it will still have enough force to push the air through the hood and out a length of duct I'll explain later heading to work ATM

ok I am using an aircooled reflector hood burns, same concept as a cooltube but with better reflective purposes plus the glass can be removed and used as a normal reflector.

I was thinking of running my system like this carbon filter-----------duct-fan-reflector--------then exhausted out of tent. Pretty much killing two birds with one stone lol.

I am just aftet some advice on will this work? If so any suggestions on a fan that will draw enough air through the filter as well as pushing enough cool air through the reflector and out the duct

thanks

get a westaflex centri fan and it should be no worries. I don't run a cool tube in my tent though so the only thin in my tent other than light and reflector is the carbon filter. All ducting and fans outside the tent. Better to suck through a carbon filter than to push through it aswell.

Hey thanks token thanks for the suggestion, Do you have any problems with temps? i am from qld and it is starting to warm up abit so i am thinking summer will be a stinker.

i can use my reflector just as a normal hood so i mite think about that thanks heaps for the advice.

ah Queensland legend like myself!

Mate it does get a bit hot as I draw air direct from outside, though it is shaded. I have great airflow and the temps are stable which is very important. Lights are off during the day... Would love to run ac but can't.

Hey token thanks heaps for the advice just saved me extra start up costs plus electricity :D I have my tent underneath the house in the garage and atm it is alot cooler then outside temps so hopefully that will help the situation again thanks heaps mate

Keep smoking.
