Yeah mate the growth rate in Deep Water Culture (DWC) is pretty fast in general, and yeah the nutrients are in the water as well as an airstone.

 

Leave them in all the way through.

Is it difficult/expensive to set up?

It can be as simple or as complicated as you make it and can be done cheaply.

I did a few years of DWC grows and its definitely the fastest from what info is available , with the exception of aeroponics maybe

 

BUT

 

it can be finicky , changes move rapidly through the system if anything goes wrong and there is no environmetal buffering which can be a problem in hot/cold climates . its not a set and forget setup

 

also the other hydro methods tend to catch up a bit near the end of the grow . but for early veg , DWC plants just explode .

 

here is one of my fav DWC grows , white russian , 3x20L buckets , 1x control bucket , 400w hps , big 800lph quad air pump with big ceramic air stones - you can never get enough air with dwc.
