Children caught with pot

Recommended Posts

Its taken premier Beattie long enough to jump on the band wagon here. This was first reported in the local "Albert & Logan news on Wed Oct 22. The headline reads "Anger at drug use cover up". Here's there version.

Parents are outraged at being told to "keep quiet" about a group of Year 5 children found smoking MJ at school.

An angry mother, who did not want to be named, said the 10 yr old Shailer Park State Primary school pupols had been found in the tiolets smoking MJ from home made bongs.

She said the group had escaped criminal charges and had merely been suspended after the October 9 incident an action she deemed "far to lenient".

The woman, whose children also attended the school, said she was concerned children could obtain MJ, make bongs and smoke on school premises and only recieve a suspensiion.

She said parents had been called to a meeting at the school after the incident, where they were advised to "keep quiet".

"But you know what mothers are like. When it's your children at the school of course you are going to get worried."

The Shailer park resident said she was concerned such a serious offence could be pushed aside.

"A couple of students were only suspended for five days"

This is not enough for children of that age doing drugs".

Shailer Park State School principal Marianne Mcmann said the punishment for smoking MJ "depended on the nature of the incident"

Education Qld would not comment.

Police said they have been advised but no criminal charges had been laid.

The report ends with Logan house Drug rehab putting in his two cents worth - as reported above.

A couple of things worth noting - originally the "offenders" were originally given only a five day suspension, until the media and Beattie got hold of it.

Secondly - as usual everybody blames the parents. We don't know that the parents were even smokers. You can get whatever you like in school and the kids could have purchased the MJ before they even got to school. The parents have done the right thing, sending their kids to school.

do you know what your kid gets up to when they leave for school.?

This area (Shailer Park) is an "exclusive area"

big houses, lots sa money)). You know -school for rich kids etc

The problem is that the kids (year 5) now carry a stigma which will stay with them forever (All infractions are noted in the Dept of Ed database.). I still think it should have been handled in house with councilling etc, not beat them up because it has got ion the press.

Without giving to much away here - IN a two year period at the high school - (next door) MJ was freely available from a particular group and when finally busted, his father was a preacher and knew nothing about his sons activity. The kid bought of the street then sold in school - I beleive the going price was $5.00 a smoke - ordinary cig laced with a small amount of MJ. Although admitting to dealing, no police charges and 2 week suspension.

All I can say is "Don't hide your head in the sand". As my 17 year old daughterr told me - its available everywhere dad, deal with it.

That's the point. What's really going to be better in the long run, education and regulation? Or prohibition and just basically stupid denial?

True, ecstasy and other drugs are just as available, the difference is that those kinds of synthetic drugs melt holes in your brain........do you know what crystal meth does to your brain cells? :)

do you or have you just been watching too much Oprah?? I think its silly to be claiming the dangers of ecstacy on an MJ site, its all crap you learnt through the mainstream media, through the same shows and papers that tell you pot causes schizophrenia and depression.

Every drug is quite safe in moderation with the exception of some (brugmansia, toads etc..), LSD, ecstacy even heroin (from a reliable source) are safe as anything.

I doubt the "holes in brain" caused by amphetamines are more of a problem than lung cancer, throat infections, pneumonia, etc... cannabis and mouldy cannabis can cause.

This exact case happened years and years ago at my primary school, almost exact same story, 4 kids in year 5 smoked pot in the toilets, it never made much of a splash in the media, got the front page of the daily examiner but I dont think any other coverage.

The guy that had the pot stole it off his dad who often smoked with him, he was a real bad little motherfucker, like I was a bad little cunt too, but this guy was evil. Pissed on teachers cars and in fishtanks and stuff.

Hear! Hear!

The danger is not knowing when to stop.

I'm only fifteen and i only started smoking weed a few months ago, and even though some of you will think i'm too young, you have to think, if you were my age would you smoke weed?

And it makes me think that it sounds way too young for yr5's to be smoking, how would you feel if you had access to weed and you see heaps of people in movies or whatever saying that dope is so great. If is was in yr 5 and could get dope I would probably try it, maybe not. But hey, different circumstances.

I'm very sorry to say this Eo... oh, it would appear that chev and babybear have already let you know... :)

Yeah, this is an 18+ site... The site explicitly states this several times. So sorry buddy, but you'll have to wait a few years. :)

This isn't personal, you understand, but regardless of our personal opinions as to the morality of those of minority using cannabis recreationally, the site has to have a cut off, and it's 18. ;)
