How to care for seedlings before putting them outdoors

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I will be germinating my seeds in paper towel and then putting them in small styrofoam noodle cups (about 600ml) with Debco seedling mix. My question is, what should I do when the seedlings pop out from the soil? I don't have any lights to grow them inside... should I just take them outside at the start of the day, and bring them in at night? We've got a small greenhouse thing with shadecloth over the top, but I'm not sure how much sun gets in there.

Also, when do I transplant from the small styrofoam cups to the ground? How do I make sure the plant doesn't get rootbound too badly?

Thanks

Depending on where you are I would time it so that the plants will only have to be in the cups for 2 or 3 weeks max before they can stay permanently outdoors :)

The best time for them to be transplanted outside will be when it doesn't get to cold at night so as not to shock the plants and when the weathers pretty constantly warm during the day :)

Good luck !
