Man in court over 4-state drug ring

MELBOURNE man will face court today over his alleged involvement in a national drug syndicate suspected of trafficking cannabis between four states.

 

Jason Peter Scott, of Ringwood North, was remanded in custody in an out-of-sessions court hearing late yesterday after a series of raids across Australia.

 

Homes in Melbourne's eastern and southern suburbs, including Ringwood North, Edithvale, Box Hill North and Croydon Hills were searched about 7am (AEST) yesterday.

 

Cash, cannabis and drug-related equipment were seized in the raids, which followed a three month joint investigation involving police from Victoria, NSW, South Australia and the Australian Crime Commission.

 

Scott will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court today on multiple drug charges.

Yesterday, NSW State Crime Command (SCC) detectives arrested two men during raids on homes in Sydney, Newcastle and Gunnedah.

 

During this raid, SCC detectives seized just over 25kg of cannabis and $48,000 cash.

 

Victorian police seized 2.7kg of cannabis and $10,000 cash.

 

In South Australia, detectives seized 30kg of cannabis leaf, 80 plants and ammunition after a raid on an Adelaide property.

 

Police also shut down a clandestine drug lab in an Adelaide home. A 27-year-old man is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today after the operation. He was arrested in a raid at a New Lambton property and faces one count each of goods in custody, supplying commercial quantity of cannabis, cultivation of a prohibited drug and possession of a prohibited drug.

 

A 49-year-old Sydney man arrested during a raid in Carlton was bailed after being charged with one count of cultivating a prohibited drug and two counts of possessing a prohibited drug.

 

He is due to appear at Kogarah Local Court on November 11.
