Collar Rot?

Recommended Posts

I have a small problem out of the 15 seedlings i have 5 have what appears to be collar rot 1/3 of the stem growing from the base of the potting mix is brown, but the rest of the stem is in what appears to be good health with nice dark purple colour to it. Is it worth keeping these seedlings? Or just pull them out?? lol

Hmmm... could be collar rot, is it dark and mushy, do the plants look limp and fall over easily? Then you've got rot or stem-wilt. These will probably not recover if this is the case. There will also be a nasty smell to the substance if it's a fungal or bacterial infection. Immediately separate them from the others, to provide some sort of barrier against transmission... and don't touch the healthy plants after the suspect ones, as you may do the same thing.

One of the causes of this is excessive humidity or overwatering, can you describe the condtions their in for us?
