why would flushing them make them worse?

I don't know, something I read somewhere :: Something to do with mineral build-up in the soil, if the soil isn't well draining, watering excessively can cause a lockout or something. Don't quote me on this but

yeah key is if your soil doesn't drain. but, if you got good drainage flushing will never make it worse as far as I know. unless you are underferting to start with, and thats not what we got here.

Just something I read, couldn't remember exactly. That's why I said I'd just transplant them if it was me

When you flush in a soil that is not well drained a plant of that size will probably keel over, the soil in the photos looks dark with a high bark content, a mix that will hold water for a long time, the easiest solution would be to start afresh and transplant them into a good potting mix.

Id let the soil dry and water it for a while to try and leach the nutrients out.

 

Sift your soil next time [for seeds/clones] and start it in something smaller so you get a nice start to the grow. Make sure it dries daily also IMHO - I add perlite at 1:1 usually to get this effect.
