Hey thanks for replying, Taz Stoner and Pipe Man.

My grow cupboard are the following measurements:

17000 x 750 x 700

The electrical wiring above the growroom does not allow for an adjustable light, so it has been fixed at approximately 16500 from the floor.

mate there is a chord between your light fitting and your ballast. how can it not be adjustable? screw in some hooks and hang your hood on chains to adjust height as necessary

btw, I think you got one too many zeros on your height measurements, I doubt very much you have a grow cupboard 17metres high :D

Your light needs to be adjustable to allow you to set it to grow height, if you can't alter the light distance you will need to be able to adjust the height of the plants, the 400w will need to be about 18" away from the tops of the plants at all times during growing or you are going to have a very poor yield due to the amount of stretch in your plants.

Check out the links in my signature for more information about HID lighting.

If it's one of those "grow fridge" setups, then you'll have to raise the pots to compensate for the lack of adjustability of the light... Use something clean and strong, and lower the plants as they grow... Remember that your flowering plants will be twice as tall as at the end of veg, so take it easy...

Keep a close eye on temps of the canopy too, make sure it doesn't get too hot...
