Victoria :) few questions!

Recommended Posts

G'day Troops.

I have my seedlings already growing for this years outdoor. They are 2 weeks old tomorrow and are under a 400w HPS on 12-1 lighting. They will be about 10-12 weeks when they go outdoors. I like to have my seedlings ready to plant out by Melbourne Cup Day, soil prepared, everything in order. I will probably only put 2 outdoors this year, after being ripped of last Autumn. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

The only thing I know is that if you scarify the seeds before putting them in water it does help germination. You get an old match box, put a bit of fine grit sandpaer in the box. put in some seeds and give them a shake for short time and put in water. Scarifying helps the moisture get into the embryo and starts germination quicker. I personally would not be putting any chemical additives in the water to help germination. If they are available that is.

Nice one brick I'm gonna be trying that one this season !

And magpie I'm looking up your one now :)

What do you guys plant the seedlings into once germinated ? I was just gonna do a mix of seed raising, potting mix and peat moss in those jiffy pots but interested in what everyone else does :)

With germinated seeds you really want to keep it as simple as possible, seed raising mix and jiffys will both work really well, I personally like getting a small pot, fill it 3 quarters of the way with seed raising mix then get a rock wool cube that's been soaked for an hour or so, drop the seed in the rockwool, place the rockwool in the pot and fill it up to the top with seed raising mix. Always works for me.
