250mm fan for 400w light

Hi all,

Just curious as to whether I could use a 250mm centrifugal fan and 250mm filter and a muffler in a 1m x1m x2m high grow tent for a 400w hps light?

would the ventilation combination be physically too big for the 1 x1 x2m tent? also could fan speed control be use to reduce the air flow and wattage usage?

Hi gs007, I don't think that would be too much ventilation for that area and the muffler would probably somewhat reduce the airflow. I don't use fan speed controllers, but one thing to keep in mind is that some fans shouldn't be used with a speed controller.

Would the muffler be worth the money? and the reduced airflow? Is the noise reduction noticeable?

Heya Gsoo7 =) , Use a 150mm Centrifugal fan and get a 250mm x 500mm carbon filter, the shop should have two reducers, one from 150mmm to 200mm and the other 200mm to 250mm, join em together and you got a nice size filter on a good tent sized fan, Thats as much ventilation as you need, and the bigger filter means the air rushing noise is lessened as the diameter goes up. Set up outside with carbon filter at the end to save space. Will still do the job well as the carbon filter is big enough to flow the air for that fan. Hope that helps. Peace. gh72 . p.s.
