Can I mount an inline Fan this way

Recommended Posts

Gday guys hope I can get some advise and info on how I have mounted an inline fan in my drobe.....

I have attached pics which show that I have mounted it to the side of the drobe so that it is sucking air directly up or down.......

The reason i ask this is because i was testing it yesterday and only after about an hour i went and checked and it wasnt spinning like it was caught or had dropped out of place or something.....it was trying but couldnt.....I did switch it off and then back on and it started going again.....but didnt leave it on as what had happened got me thinking an inline may not be able to be positioned like this???? or do i have a faulty fan????

Please note you will see that there is ducting on both ends of the inline.....at present i am planning to use this as an extract for a couple of weeks while my centri fan is organised.........so the ducting at the top is just taped in place further up the drobe to extract the warmer air....the duct at the bottom of the fan leads straight to a vent...........As soon as i get my centri fan in place i intended to simply poq the ducting at the top.....flip the fan around and it was going to be my intake fan blowing fresh air up into the drobe.....

Thanks guys I know this may seem really simplistic but I am the complete and utter anit-handyman!!!! so far out of my comfort zone but only got a couple more things to work out and it is done!

heya ana

mate cant say i know for sure...iv had inlines work fine like that ..but couldnt say i even thought about it ...

Is it an option to put the fan on top of the cuboard...(can always put it in a carboard box stuffed with ol sleepin bag or smthin ..to keep it quite)..put hole in roof of cuboard run duct down through hole..pullin hot air out...

should be enough to leave the intake passive ,with the vent being the intake...exspecially when the cntri gets there...

let me know if my babble makes no sense..HM :bongon:

yeah mate no what you mean but i had wanted to keep it all inside the drobe if i can......its taken me ages but even been able to fit the carbon filter in there for when the centri arrives........If it is ok to mount the fan straight up like this it would be a perfect intake the thing just grabbing like it did worried me but might give it another trial...................Anotber option i could try is to put a block on the floor of the drobe mount the inline on it straight up so that it is bringing the air along a straight line from the vent instead of up as it will now...............lol thats probably gonna be harder for you to understand as I dont explain things well but what can i say..........................oh boobs! :yahoo:
