Inline Fan (Muffling and filtering)

Recommended Posts

I installed these fans recently,

am having trouble deciding on an easy and effective way to filter the air coming in, block light and hopefully muffle the sound as i didn't expect it to be quite so loud, I think I'm ok for neighbours but better safe than sorry.

Have a few different ideas but any suggestions would be great.

the fans are 120mm and i can't see myself being able to attatch ducting to the back of them so not too sure.

Have an idea to try but anything more sound would be great.

The next question will be how to build a carbon filter onto the back of my ceiling exhaust for which I am already planning something but my creativity is not as great as many of you so I'm throwing it out there

The sound would be more from vibration. I would suggest taking the fans off and sticking some kind of insulation between the fan and the wood. Your plants look really good! What light are you using? Are both those fans extracting?

I don't think those pc fans would have enough cfm to pull air through a carbon filter. You might want to look at an odor sock if you don't want to upgrade your ventilation.

There are brackets you can buy which allows you to affix ducting to those 120mm fans.

You can make a light baffle out of ply wood.

Its just shap like a U and allows for a heap of airflow. I used fine flyscreen and stuck insect traps on the inside walls. I was playing around with using surface spray inside the baffle but thought better of it.

Anyway, hope this helps.

G'day MJ.

I've just installed a 155mm in line fan, to push air through my 2 cool tubes, and it is also noisy. I only started using it today, and I'm already thinking of ways to quiet it down, as I think I'll buy another one, so the tubes can have one each, when I build the purpose designed and built grow room. This will happen when this grow finishes, pretty much straight away. So keep in touch with any ideas you have and I will also. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:
