600w Ballast to Cooltube

Recommended Posts

G'day GG.

I can get you a 600w German component HPS ballast for $80 brand new. When you want anything for your grow, hammer Ebay. There's nothing wrong with Grow Lush gear, I'm using plenty of it and have struck no trouble. You are right, that is one weird plug, I've seen most off 'em, but that's a new one. If you were here I could re-wire it in 10 minutes, but you aren't. Maybe Dick Smith would have something, I saw a swag of adapters in my local the other day, but took no notice as to what they were, or Alltronics, they have just about everything electronic. Either that or find a cool sparky. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

G'day Lou Lou.

It lets the blue smoke out, and it is rooted. With lekik fings, once you let the blue smoke out, shows over. But those digital ballasts have an automatic voltage sensor, so it shouldn't kark it. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

So it shouldn't kark it, but will it run ok without a stepdown transformer? I learned about them from me dad... after getting zapped off the one he had jerry rigged to his American stereo when I was little.

Get a female round pin earth, as the one on the ballast will be hard to find a mate for, and probably expensive. Find a mate who knows about power, and maybe have him do the fitting, if you don't feel confident or unsure. If you are not positively sure, 100% sure, don't fuck around with electricity, it can and will kill, or burn down your house. Either of these is not a wanted outcome. You will probably have to go to an electrical wholesaler to buy this plug, as they are not commonly used in Australia. I don't remember seeing them in Bunnings. Lawrence and Hanson or such a company will have them, $7-8 or so, check the yellow pages. The ballast should have an automatic voltage sensor on board, check the paper work that came with it. If not, you will need a step down transformer, but most electrical things you buy nowdays has a sticker telling you the voltage and hertz range. We operate on a nominal 240v @ 50hz ac current. The yanks run on, I think, 110v ac. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

Cheers Norm..Just picked up the plug this morning. Yeah ballast runs on 50 - 60 hertz and can run either 120v or 240v so hopefully should be all good. Thanks for your help guys muchly appreciated :bongon:
