600w Ballast to Cooltube

Recommended Posts

Hi Peeps,

I brought a 600W quantum ballast that came from the states. Had to buy a new main power cord with standard australian power points and today just brought a 150mm cooltube but that cord won't plug into the ballast either.. I knew I'd have to get the new power cord but wasn't expecting a cooltube not to plug into it....Just want to see if anyone can help me out as i dont really want to fork out for another cooltube or ballast. Just seeing if there is something I can do....

Can't you just change the cord coming out of the cooltube or ballast like you did with the other cord?

I wish it was that easy... Im a bloody drongo I just assumed the cooltube would fit all ballast and didnt check. The cord i replaced was just the power cord like a pc power cord but both of the other cords are are wired into the ballast and cooltube so not so simple. Is there adaptors or anything you can buy?? Not too keen on lugging the ballast and light down to the electrician to get rewired .

Nah, no adapters. I assume the cooltube has a round earth plug, what does the ballast have? It shouldn't be too hard to replace the cooltube cord, but I agree if you're not confident with that type of thing don't do it yourself. You should be able to get a cord on the net.

The connection on the ballast is a female jack / pig-tail . Must be american standard or something but your right my cooltube has the round earth plug. I'll have a look on the net and see if I can find a new cord for the cooltube.. Cheers for the help mate

why did you buy from the states anyway? ballasts n tubes are cheap as here in OZ without all this drama its not hard to changs the plugs but if you are not confident take it to a sparky $$ then after all that it would of been cheaper to buy here in OZ hope you solve the drama

Got this ballast for $160 from the states and was $370 from australian sites....Can't argue with the high aussie dollar. Wasn't interested in a grow lush or anything like that so thought id give it a shot.. There is a BAASP adapter you can buy that i found online last night after reading Naycha's post but not with our connection points so i think i might be shopping in the states again...

You can get adapters for those round earth pin plugs. I got a couple from a hydro shop. That plug on the ballast sure is wierd! It should not be too hard to fit a three pin female plug. You can get them at electrical wholesalers or maybe even Bunnings.
