250w or 400w HPS for this tent.....

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I'm looking to set up for my first grow. By necessity this will have to be a grow tent inside a built-in large wardrobe. I'll be placing an odoursock & extraction fan in there + an oscillating fan or two inside the tent.

I'm looking at a Growlush mylar grow tent - 0.9Mx0.5Mx1.6M - so it's going to be narrow, i can't go past 50cm for the depth. My plan is most likely 2 (or 3?) feminised plants in soil watering by hand as I want to keep it as simple as possible.

So, 250w or 400w HPS (or will this be overkill in such a small place ?)

thanks

Thanks for the replies !

My preference is obviously the 400w, my concern (besides heat in that space) is that the air will be vented out of the tent into a wardrobe - will i just be passively venting bad air back into the tent ?

Quite frustrating as I rent a huge house by myself so have heaps of room but it turns out my landlord lives around the corner and has already randomly turned up to do work or say hello so i need to have everything hidden away as he's pretty nosey.

yer

id be running the 250 if i didnt have a cool tube

50cm x 90cm should accomadate 2 plants comfortably

but its gunna be trial and error i reckon till ya sort the air out

air is 1 of the most if not the most important aspects of a grow

u dont want to be recycling used air, best bet is to exhaust totally out of area

u did say it was in a robe?? i assume a walk in 1?

maybe u can cut a hole in roof of robe and have the air exhausted out threw the hole into roof cavity

especially if running a cool tube and 400w u will need to remove the hot air from the cool tube or that will just enflate ya temps

even with a 250w u will need to get that heat gone in summer imho

u could even scrog in that area, thats wat id do to maximise yeild and control height of the plants growing

all the best

Thanks Bill, looks like the 250w it is then !

The wardrobe is just a standard sliding door, built-in job in a spare bedroom (not walk-in unfortunately). As i rent there is zero chance I can start cutting holes so I think my best option will be to leave the wardrobe doors open so as much fresh air as poss can get to the grow tent and if my landlord pops over I can always shut it up.

I was curious if a scrog was an option in a 50x90 area so I'll have to research the technique in more detail.

Just out of interest anyone with experience in supplementing with a 90w led ufo ? The only way I think it would fit is if it was mounted vertically against the back wall of the tent but I've got concerns that this would block up the vents on the back of the ufo, however it would probably be a better veg light I'm guessing ??

Cheers !!
