Seedlings

Ugh, thats a huge pot for little seedings [been there and found better] - use cups and 1 pot per plant next time and pot-up when roots are coming out of each drain hole.

Also, the sun is going to come out - who told you there was not going to be any sun? Any sun is good sun although if it really will be very overcast it might be good to put them under a CF instead as its a good time to grow [plants grow exponentially so try to keep them happy - each time theyre shocked the growthrate/yield is hurt IMHO]. ;)

PS. the pot isnt too bad but make sure its drying out at least every 3 days [itd be every day if they were cups and daily watering is good]. I use the 6" pot after about 2 weeks in soil.

EEK!!! when you transplant those seedlings you will definately break roots - sifted soil is better.

Sorry for saying things arent great but it will give you something to try next time - keep up the good grow [the seedlings look healthy]. :)

We are here to help. :)

Its best if you learn by your own mistakes [NB. plant some in nice soil and small container to see the difference it makes after 2 weeks - then transplant all and see if sifted soil is really better]. Dont rip the seedlings you have as you can learn to transplant, clone, seed or preflower etc later without destroying what you might want to grow this season. ;)

I'm going to try to transplant at least one of these pricks into its own pot. I have pots with diameters of 14cm, 20cm and 30cm. Which would be the best to transplant into at this moment? Is it best to do it in the morning or night? I have some Seasol. Should I add that when I've transplanted? If I successfully seperate one seedling I'll try and move the others. Thanks heaps for your help guys. Its much appreciated.

Hey Lord Hypnos transplant into the biggest pot u have got and do at night (repotting plants in the heat thay dont like it) as u dont want to be transplanting them againe as that will stress them if u transplant too many times, after u have put into new pot give a good water u can use the Seasol but make up a weak mix until thay come back on and leave in a shady spot for a day or 2 to get over the transplant and all things well thay kick on againe and before u know it u will have some nice little plants. I'm sorry Wilderbud, but I have to disagree with you here... I've found in my experience that seed raisng for short times in small pots is all very well and good, but the sooner you get a plant into it's final container the better for its growth. :D

A cannabis plant is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, above and below ground... Many people do transplant their plants from smaller pots to larger ones as the plants progress, mostly for the convenience factor... a small pot takes up less space. But each time you transplant it from a small pot to progressively larger ones, you stress the plant, and damage the microscopic hyphae of the root system... Using vitamin suppliment tonics such as superthrive can help, and ozmade offered some good advice there too. The less times, the better... Once, twice, and at the absolute most, three transplants for MJ plants in pots of soil or potting mix outdoors is more than enough... Any more and your inviting problems IMHO.

Those plants are probably going to need transplanting out in the next 2 -4 (at outside) weeks, but in fact you're going to be much better off, (and all this is in my humble opinion of course) to very gently transplant those seedlings out of their present pot, and move them into three pots, all the same size as that one... At least to start from anyway. The reason for the individual pots is that the root systems on those plants will quickly intertwine, making transplanting more stressful... That looks about 10 - 15 cm wide? Is that an icecream container under them? That should do for a couple weeks growth, like I said... If you're growing outdoors, then get yourself a couple of 400mm wide pots from a garden center or similar, get one with excellent drainage holes too. Then also pick up some perlite from a hydro shop (this is optional, it just lightens the mix and aids drainage, but it's really up to you... if you do get some, get the coarsest stuff you can, I use "waterworld" brand in a big yellow bag from SA... great stuff...) and a good, premium potting mix... (not soil, there is a difference.) Once your seedlings have filled their pots, fill up the new large pots with a base layer of say 5 cm of perlite, (wet before use to avoid dust) and then the rest of the pot is filled with a mix of the perlite and premium potting mix. You can vary the ratio, but I use between 1/3 perlite to 2/3 soil to a 1/2 perlite/soil mix, which I prefer... This needs to be watered a bit more often, as it is a free draining mix.... But the less perlite you use, the less watering you'll be doing...

The fertilising is important too, if you get a good premium potting mix, you can either get one with large amounts of slow release fertiliser, or ones without such amendments.... I'd say go with the latter rather than the former, although the slow release capsules are useful for early growth... You won't need to add any fertiliser for quite a few weeks, perhaps months, ( not many, mind... they aren't that fertile) if you get one with added fertiliser, a mix without these will need some supplimentary organic , organic liquid or soluble chemical fertilisers in the future, probably after only a few weeks.... Check out the nutrient forums or the Growing FAQ here for some more fertiliser help.

I hope that helps you in your growing, treat the seedlings very gently with any transplanting, they don't like being disturbed much... Tough bastards, they'll certainly recover, but the less stress, the quicker and better buds... lol lol
