Hi again,

I just harvested my 2 autoflowering feminized "Il Diavolos" in the garden. During veg/flowering i caught caterpillars, grasshoppers and some other stuff, but nothing seemed big trouble after the plants reached a certain size. Now i found lots of webs though under the leaves after harvesting and i'm worried about the other plants in the garden. There are 2 more autoflowering feminized (harvest in 1 or 2 weeks i think) Tutankhamon plants and one feminized moby dick (non autoflowering). The Tutankhamons do show some webs under some leaves, but a lot less then the harvested Diavolos. The Moby Dick (which is still in veg) doesnt seem to have any of that by now.

The Diavolo had a lot of yellow leaves towards the end, although there did not seem to be any direct relation between leaves being infested and being yellow. I could be wrong though.

Looking at pics of white flies, i guess its not those (they also dont fly, they just jump). Are the other plants in danger? Especialy the Moby Dick who still has to go all the way till october i would like to keep free of those things.

-On the first pic you see how the infected leaves look from below. You can also see that it seems something curled the leaf up in order to hide in it, although im not sure if thats from the same bugs.

-The second and third pics show close ups of the bug. Unfortunately my cell phone cam hits its limit on those tiny things. They look kinda fluffy close up, like insect version of bunnies.

-The 4rth pic is the larvae or whatever it is that is hiding in the curled up leaf.

-And the last pic is another infected leaf, this time from the Tutankhamon. The other leaves are healthy though and got a lot less of that white stuff, if any at all.

What is this and do i need to worry about the other 3 plants? And how likely is it that i carry the pest into my growroom (400w HID with 4 moby dicks). Is the pocked microscope i use both in garden and growroom a potential carrier for eggs or whatever?

yea the trouble with indoor plants is that when they get a bug attack there are no other predator bugs around to keep them at bay, plus indoors the bugs love the warmth and protection, hence populations can quickly get out of control.

natural insecticides like pyrethrium, garlic, neem oil can be bought in sprays from garden shops etc, although these deter the insects they dont always kill them altogether, still they should be used 1st up ..

if insects resist these sprays you might try something more heavy duty like 'mite-rid' which are chemical based diluted with water, make sure you completely wet the plant with spray especially underside of leaves

i cant see if they are spider -mite or not , the fluffy cotton-wool like appearance is not really s.m. but webs are .. check the pic. below, its a mealy-bug , is that what yours look like?

PS. if you working outside in garden wash hands before handling indoor plants, simple housekeeping rules for gardeners

Thanks for the help :)

Is it 100% sure its spider mites? The insect on Frazz' pic doesnt realy look like the ones i got here. I managed to get better shots of one. Maybe they are young versions of the the insect on my last 2 pics? I thought thats possible because both, the small white ones and the one from last pics make quite impressive jumps. Do spider mites jump?

Today, after i had the plants hanging upside down for 24 hours (so they get the death signal and can pump all they got into the buds, no idea if that realy does anything), i manicured them and except 2 buds i did not find anymore webs (i removed the webbed leaves yesterday already). Even the 2 buds are still in good condition. Maybe the infestation was still in an early stage. Could it be that the plant was weakened because i stopped giving nutrients 2 weeks or more ago?

Anyway, i was thinking about treating the remaining plants with a recipe a friend told me a while ago, but im not sure i should use it on the 2 autoflowering plants as they should be ready for harvest in max 2 weeks. The recipe goes (if i remember correctly):

2 liters of water

4 toes of garlic

tabacco from 2 cigarettes

mix well, and let it rest for 4 days on room temp. then sift it out and use the liquid to spray the plant. store it in the fridge.

im a bit worried that might affect the taste, how long before harvest could something like this be used?

I thouroughly searched the remaining plants in the garden and found very little. The moby dick has 1 spot with webs on a stem, but the leaves seem clear. On the autoflowering i did not find more infected leaves, although its a bit hard to see as they plants are in the ground and not in a pot.

The first pic is the yield from the 2 autoflowering il diavolos. I didnt dare put them into the same room as my indoor plants in order to dry them, so i put them on a fence thing into a caravan in the garden. The ventilation should be fine and its quite dark. Looking forward to testing the weed, been told its quite a couchlock :D

Looks more like catepillar silk to me. Don't know what those white bugs are. If they were/are spider mites and you had that much webbing on your plants then you would see the little fuckers crawling everywhere. Especially under the fan leaves. They would also have lots of yellow spots on the leaves where they suck out the sap.

Wooly Aphids .. that looks like the little sap-suckers bastards in the pics :scratchin:

wiki says; "The adults are winged and move to new locations where they lay egg masses. In flight they have been described as looking like "flying mice", and are given nicknames like "fluff bugs" "fairy flies" or "fuzz-butts". " ... fuzz-butts lol

" Due to their whimsical appearance, some parents tell children that they carry wishes, live in tulips, and much like fairies, are born every time you make a wish on a dandelion." .. yea and they like dope apparently!

G'day Santos.

Try some mozzie coils, cheap as, they are only a bug and pyrethrum will kill bugs. In an enclosed area turn on a fan with the coil going, to saturate the area and let it do it's stuff. Try one every two days for about 8 days. It solved my fungus gnat problem real big time, and pyrethrum is harmless to people and pets.:guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

ah cool, thanks. Those wooly aphids on the third picture on that site do look a lot like the ones i got here. I will get some mozzie coils to be prepared in case my indoor plants get them too.

I guess for the garden i need to use something different then mozzie coils. How long before harvesting can i use garlic? I think i will defenitely use that mix on the moby dick if any more webs appear. The autoflowering Tutankhamon though i'm not so sure. I'm tempted to keep an eye on them and try to make it to harvest without doing anything. I think its less then 2 weeks until they are ready and those woolly aphids dont sound like a massive thread, especialy as on the Diavolos they seemed to prefer the leaves and left the buds alone.

PS: must be good stuff i'm growing here if the aphids travel all the way from japan to feed on it :faint:
