Chlorine and shit?

Would the stuff I use in my tropical fish tanks that removes the chlorine etc be any use in a hydro system?

If it's a water softener, then no... although I'm not really sure what product you're referring to. Never had any experience with fishies... aside from knowing how to bait a hook and catch em... don't know anything about keeping em....

 

What does it say it does? And why would you even bother if you can just leave the water still for 24 hours to evaporate the chlorine content? Much easier IMO, and unless you absolutely know that it's not harmful to humans when used in a hydro system, then I wouldn't use it.

hey does anyone know if its easy to test for chlorine content in water? I was going to do some experiments leaving water out to see how long you really need to do it for. Also putting an airstone in it to see if that made any significant distance. I was going to look around in a pet or pool shop when I got the chance.

Yeah me too. I sometimes forget to leave water out (50%of the time ), and put tap water straight in. Don't notice much of a difference. I think it's more because you can get a build up of minerals in your system.......would that be right?

Anyway, I don't really stress over it...much

I reckon something happens to water when you leave it out. My tapwater ec is 0.4 but if left out for a few days it creeps up to 0.5 sometimes 0.6. Would this just be dust & shit falling in the water?

most people negate anything to do with there water. Reverse osmosis water is the go. The plants will grow faster and healthier, for a small cost its a solid investment.

hey jackfrost, I am thinking about getting a RO unit, both for drinking water and for my grow. What do I need to look out for when buying one? Are there any makes you'd recommend?

reverse osmosis filters are tedius fuckers, so fucking slow.

 

I dont believe they are a solid investment at all, I really fucking regret buying one actually, and wouldnt consider one unless your water is already like 280ppm or so.

 

Sure they get the water down to 0ppm and fix pH problems, they sound fucking wonderful, but they suck arse, make water-changes take hours.
