Transplanting tall clones

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have some pretty awesome looking clones ready to go into the grow room shortly.

Problem is they have grown quite tall about 350mm.

They have really nice tops but not much down the stem.

How far down can i plant the stem when i do a transplant?

If i could go down 60 to 70mm that would be great, but is that going to be ok, or will they get stem rot?

Or does someone have another suggie?

Cheers.

If they were mine Id Go half the way up at least cutting off the lower branches. You can paint the exposed trunk with clonex and this will encourage roots out of the trunk after a month or so , I use perlte fwiw. All depends what type of plant stucture you want. Id also be tidying the top up a little and cutin out any scragglers.

Good luck whatever you do theyl come good

Edit* forgot too mention bury them up when repotting if your after a good bush structure.

Yeah be best not to bother too much with the schmotz at the bottom, it would be really cool to watch the whole stem bud up tho.

OK stupid question but what are clones? I understand you cut plant off half way up and you have two plants? How does the branch that was cut off survive?

Not a stupid question at all... But I would suggest you have a read in the Cannabis propagation forum, much to be gained reading through those threads.

Simply, a clone is a piece of plant taken from the original and set to root. Ever ripped a bit of daisy off and chucked it in the ground? Same thing exactly.

Hi fellas,

Clones are cuttings, cut from the female plant, dipped in a rooting solution or powder and placed in a grow medium to shoot roots, but essentially they are cuttings. They have the same DNA as the mother plant they came from. Everybody does it their own way. Some swear by powder others swear by clonex. Personally I'm a clonex man. I use rockwool cubes as my medium dip them and plant in MOIST cubes. Then under a 24/7 fluro. When I place them in the pots I plant the whole cube in perlite.

As for planting tall clones, You can plant them deeper but I have heard of the stem going rotten, this may have been due to watering and painting the stem with clonex may alleviate this by encouraging root growth. I always pluck the centres out of my clones upon planting. This makes the plant branch out and as I'm a ScrOG grower the more branches the better the spread of growth. If the clones are too tall I cut more of the centre out. They have always recovered. One year I took the centre I'd cut out and made a clone from that for outside.
