Hey all i have started my seedlings off under 3 18w CF inside a 25lt bucket with a little fan to move air around so it dont get too warm (i dident think CF got as hot as thay did) thay are only an inch tall just starting to kick on, so question is how many CF would i need to veg my babys to to the point were i put under my 400w hsp for budding (and were can i get those 48w CF i have been hearing about as thay would be the ones i would like to get)i was thinking if i had say 5-6 24w CF for two plants to veg under dose this sound ok because starting seedlings from scrach under my 400w sun-t is costing me too bloody much money in power.

You will get far better results using the Son-T for veg as well, use CF's in the house instead and save your power that way, plus the ones you are using for your seedlings could be used in the house as well, saving you the cost of 3 CF's. Also, one 18w CF is more than enough for starting seedlings in that bucket.

I'm actually using CF's these days for sexing my seeds.

before I came to this site I never even knew they existed. Now I dont have any incadescents left in my house.

I've got 5 20w flos in a space 60 x 40cm x about 60 tall. They grow very well and keep plants really healthy, kick arse over tubes and over time I will replace the 200w of tubes I use for my mums, into about 100w of CF's. Under th 5 CFs I use now I grow up to 12 plants to 1ft tall maximum.

But none the less I wouldn't veg under them, the nodes are long as hell and flowering them would give windy buds, under HID you will get way better stouter plants with thicker stems and way bushier growth, which is important towards yield later on.
