For me ya cant beat the Phillips Sun-T range, hands down IMO they is the best.

I have a 400w that have used for over 5 years now and lost count on how many grows it has done...

I was looking at that range. There is a (at times a pretty petty, childish, immature & ultimately pointless, but good info otherwise) thread about the merits of these globes.

I see in your profile you use a 150w for veg and a 400 for flower. Since i'm looking a a small grow for personal only 2 plants at a time, do you have 2 separate lighting setups for veg and flower?

Or is it possible to change globes between stages and use the same ballast? In my case that is a 400w ballast.

If it is, do you have to be careful with touching the lamp as you have to be with halogen globes, since the oil on your skin can fuck the globe up? And before anyone misreads that comment, I know you don't use halogens :ack: , it's more the handling of the globe that is an issue here.

EDIT: Yes, mental giant, look at Grasshoppers Setting up a tent guide!

And Pleb Scrubber, that is another thing i was thinking of as well, using a cool tube. So another variable to throw in the mix when getting a globe, looking at ones with cooltubes, or if possible, retrofitting.

Thanks again to everyone for chipping in with their bits of knowledge, i think the best course of action for me may be to start a 'getting equipment to build something' blog, for my benefit as well as anyone else in the future who end up going down this path as well. There is a shitload of info on the boards here, but i suspect that some newbies either get scared off by the possible complexity in choices, or pissed off at the sometimes childish behaviour that can happen on forums, irrespective of the topic, be it pot, cars, computers, what ever floats your boat.

I may focus the blog on more getting the stuff as there are issues i have in that case that may not apply to others. Namely money, and getting this stuff past the oldies. (So, creative excuses and stealthy behaviour may be the go.)

Then, when i have my shit together, so to speak, i may do a grow diary and then for my own interest firstly, cross reference my choices in the getting equipment to build something in the grow diary. For me at least that is the best way for me to learn; get as much info as possible, let it rattle around in my head for a bit, get opinions/experiences from others, then be able to justify my choices with results, or learn by doing when i screw up.

Heaven forbid, i may be able to put to some GOOD use an Arts degree and a 1/2 finished Honours after all. :applause:

I'll go away now b4 i jinx myself, and repeat a pattern that has been a hallmark of me for too long, being talking the theory and doing sweet F.A.
