My First Grow

I should be able to get my hands on either 2x250w HID/MH Ballasts or a 400w & 600w (both via unreliable friends for a somewhat cheaper price than brand new, unless anyone has any they'd like to sell me for a decent price? )

Didn't see anyone else mention it, but this is a bad way to source your lights... especially if they know where you live or can get that info through mutual friends. Before ya even start ya got unreliable people knowin' bout ya grow

I more meant unreliable as in I don't know if they will come through with providing the lighting for me. Everyone that knows about my grow I trust 100%.

 

Got my lighting sorted now anyway. Picking up 2x250w MH/HPS Ballasts this weekend

Thats like a small space and determins everythine else . . . . . that space will give you practice at germination & if your not confident don't do noffin !

Some posts have tried to say "that fan(s) is not good" .. you need better ect. [get a real fan ya big girl...dont skimp on ventilation...PS].... he really should have been more of a helpful fellow grower by recognizing by your (1) title "First Grow" (2)My drobe is 57x72x107 (cm). May be he did but i would have thought that this is your main design problems and that he would have pointed thisa fact out.

 

Ernie was helpful but while recognizing (1) title "First Grow", ......on da ball Ernie but realy was not visuaizing "(2)My drobe is 57x72x107 (cm)."

 

Offer some advice - use 100w "red CLF build yourself a drobe or pick up a cheap drobe from vinnies. Taller the better - heat with amy ballast lighting will not be an option for that space ...............i've got a 90w LED which is 'slowly plugging along' - as 90w dose

 

May be i missed some thing and i got your space all wrong if aso please ignore all above !

Thanks for all your help everyone My netpots, rockwool, PPM/Thermometre and panda film just arrived. I ordered some air stone walls and a pump, but both were shit, so i'm going to duck to the aquarium shop and not skimp our on an air pump.

 

I've also found that my local Hydro shop has a fantastic range, so I know where i'm going to get all my supplies now. I'll be heading there tomorrow, and i've decided to not "skimp" on ventilation

 

Lastly, I need to decide on nutrients.

My tap water reads 140 PPM, can I put this straight into my tub (PH adjusted of course, or should I use distilled water?)

 

I know i've asked a lot of questions, and some of them probably stupid but I massively appreciate all of the help and patience.

All the nutes I have used previously have all stated "Use tap water". I have tried rainwater with less than pleasing results and I do not believe distilled water will help. My present PPM is around 140-200 range. Works fine. Add the nutes then test the pH. Some nutes have a pH nuetralizer in them so if you test and adjust the water pH prior to dosing when you dose with nutes, the ph may alter. As a rule if I add anything to my fluids I test the pH, be that water, nutes or pH up or down, after adding (and stirring) I test.

When it comes to your nutes. I can vouch for GreenDream. I've been using this Australian made brand for years now. The company Flairform also make the pH dropper test I use. I have also used other brands some american that I wouldn't recommend. Cyco is another brand I have only heard negative comments about, But in saying that others would have other experience and other recommendations. It really is a bit of trial and error.

 

As for the questions, ask away. We all had to start somewhere and although some ppl forget this fact, we all had questions? As for dumb questions we've all had them too. Some may tell you they are stupid but what were the questions they asked at the start. If you can learn from the fuck ups I've made or stupid questions I've asked, all the better. Ask away.

Ok so some changes were made on the fly Despite having had a car accident and my car being written off this long weekend, the grow room made progress!

 

so new dimensions for custom made grow tent are 1.1x1.1x1.8m + a tonne of panda film. Local hydro guys quoted me $100 for a 150mm Inline Fan, and another $65 for a 100mm Inline Fan for exhaust. Though ebay looks much cheaper.

 

I picked up a decent size big two pot RDWC from them too, which came with pump and tubing + nutes + bag of perlite + PH Tester & kit, and ph buffer for $95. Got a 400w HPS Ballast with reflector and bulb for $140, tonne of panda film. I'll have two decent sized green ladies. A nice small decent experiment for my first grow I can always expand
