My First Grow

Recommended Posts

Me, personally, I wouldn't be messing around with a PC fan, not in a wardrobe. Others may disagree

I'd be looking at more an exhaust fan for a kitchen or bathroom

That way you don't need to piss around with voltage regulators or transformers, it runs straight 240v

I'm not sure of the CFM but the exhaust fan would have to move more air than a PC fan and you can never have too much air flow

Seems to be quite the price difference between PC fans and kitchen exhaust fans.

If I was to want to go with PC fans, how would I go about it?

$25 from Bunnings made by Heller.

Heller Exhaust Fan

PC fans are 12 volt. You would need a 12v transformer. Dick Smith sell them. It would probably cost $20-30 for the transformer

Just go the exhaust fan, plug it in and be done with it.

That vent fan looks to be fine for my small drobe setup, even overkill.

I wouldn't say that's quite skimping, if it's doing a more than adequate job?

Skimping may be a bit harsh but many growers go for a centifugal fan for efficiency and CFM.

Also centrifugal have the power to push through carbon filters which many growers use for odour control, where the vent fan wouldn't have the same ability

A ceiling fan is meant to sit flat, often placing them on their side can cause problems. needing to be replaced. They can also heat up if left on constantly, so be aware of this and use a timer to give the fan 'cooldown' time.

Thanks for all your help everyone :) My netpots, rockwool, PPM/Thermometre and panda film just arrived. I ordered some air stone walls and a pump, but both were shit, so i'm going to duck to the aquarium shop and not skimp our on an air pump.

I've also found that my local Hydro shop has a fantastic range, so I know where i'm going to get all my supplies now. I'll be heading there tomorrow, and i've decided to not "skimp" on ventilation :)

Lastly, I need to decide on nutrients.

http://www.nutriflo.com.au/shop/nutrients is the range my hydro shop has, does anyone have any particular experience with any there, and would recommend?

My tap water reads 140 PPM, can I put this straight into my tub (PH adjusted of course, or should I use distilled water?)

I know i've asked a lot of questions, and some of them probably stupid :P but I massively appreciate all of the help and patience.
