1st grow in barfridge need tips and advice

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, after much discussion with my missus and getting sick of buying weed all the time my missus decided i can grow my own aslong as its 'discreet', found this neat little setup on gumtree inside a barfridge so i ended up buying it ended up costing me a quarter and $50:)

now i havent grown before so i find this all a new learning curve , i've posted pics of the way i currently have it setup however i am a little paranoid of how much heat the light puts out, ( im yet to get a thermometer in there probly a really good idea but)

i've got a little plant growing from some bagseed, i think ill experiment abit with bagseed before i go ordering online, i'm not to sure if the plant should be closer to the light or if its ok the way it is?

im just going to start with dirt for the first few grows then maybe look into a small water feeding system, would just like to here any criticism on where i've gone wrong or what i can do to improve anything

i have been reading alot on this forum and have picked up alot of handy info, would just love to hear from other members of the community on what i can to improve results :)

cheers guys and bong on :)

o p.s incase your wondering what fans are doing what its like this at the moment, top two fans above light- blowing air onto light to keep cool (good idea or not?) , Middle fan below light- blowing air straight, little fan at bottom, sucking air out

thanks

Heya Havik =) , Mate there are some excellent Fridge growers on here, such as Wietlover and Buzzo, I suggest you check out some of their grows in the Grow diaries section.

Need to tell you something right off the bat...... That light fitting...............the ceramic holder is broken and that exposed bit of metal/part of the Globe is VERY dangerous.

May I suggest buying a new globe holder before going any further, Safety First mate =) .

As for the fans, Two top fans should be pulling hot air outside (hot air rises), the bottom and the side fan should be pulling air into the fridge.

I'm sure one of the Fridgies be by soon with some advice about setting up real nice. Peace. Gh72

temps arent looking to good, this is with the lght on for roughly 2 hours, do you guys suggest i get more fans in there sucking air out?

posted up some pics with thermometers in there

temp next to the plant was reading 38.6,

cheers look foward to any suggestions, i ended up switching top 2 fans around so they suck out and same with the middle fan, i also added a small fan to the bottom of the fridge to help circulate air around, good idea or not i'm not to sure,

thanks guys

cheers mate, thought that was way to hot

ended up doing a few extra modifications and boosting the power supplly to the fans. Abit more noisy but pushing air around great, picked up a neat pipe fitting from trash and treasure at the dump cut a hole in the wall and attached the pipe to the main fun that sucks the heat away from the light,

had the light going for a good 4 hours now and temps are staying at 27-28 :) hopefully thats not to hot seems all the air getting pushed into the roof space is helping,

any suggestions on timings i should run the light at, picked up a timer today been reading people try 18-6 or 20-4 i'm not to sure, thanks again!:)

Hi havik_racing

Good to see ya got the temps down Light time is 18/6 for growth and 12/12 for flower. If you fridge outside is's not realy to hot here at the moment but it will in a few months might be worth having your dark period during the day when it's hotter.

I could be wrong guess some one will say if i am. Have a good grow bro.

yeah mate i thought the exact same thing , let the girls have there sleep at say between 9-3 during the day to keep temps down, had her running again today and the temps krept to 32.6 at around 2pm ( is that to hot?) temps are now down to 27ish

i have the bar fridge in a sliding closet in my room, the main fan sucking heat away from the light into the wall/roof behind, but now i have noticed a 'distinct' dirt smell when i enter my room, i was going to ask you guys if it would be worth while investing in a carbon filter or can i go without it?

I made a extra little modification today being abit paranoid about the heat, i found a small piece of hose, hooked it up into my aircon and made a small hole inside the fridge and put the hose inside ( ill attach a pic)

i ran the aircon for abit and it really helped with the temp (kep it at around 28-29ish during the day ) but is that healthy for the plant? i live in a real old queenslander house, pretty sure it doesnt have insulation, walls heat up pretty bad during the day

went to go pop into the local hydroponics store today to make some enquiries but they were shut at 11am funny huh?

cheers guys for the tips really appreciate it :)

p.s i have been doing alot of reading on a small diy bubbler system, is this going to give me quicker yield times over dirt? if so by how much roughly? seems pretty easy to knock together for 1-2 plants

post up some pics of this aircon hose soon, dam digital camera batteries

Hay 32 is prob a bit hot but not really sure venting in to the wall is a good idear where are u bringing the air in from.

I would sugest u get a filter not so much now but when they flower they get smelly. If u dont want to fork out hundred's on a filter have a look at ODURSOK.

Aircon is good if it get's to hot.

Funny bout the hydro shop im heading out to the wacol one tomorrow.

Happy growing wheatus

P.S. bubblersare easy to make and quite good from what iv read im going to go for a flood and drain with mine. not really sure if it speed's time up or not
