A 33-year-old man will face court today, after police raided a home in Sydney's south and seized more than 50 cannabis plants.

 

Officers from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad raided a house in Union Street, Kogarah yesterday afternoon.

 

Inside, police discovered that four out of the five bedrooms had been converted into specialised cannabis growing rooms.

 

More than 50 cannabis plants were seized, including many of them mature and ready for harvest.

 

Chemicals and dried cannabis were also found, along with signs of electrical modifications that allowed the theft of electricity.

 

The man was taken to Sydney's Kogarah Police Station and charged with enhanced indoor cultivation of cannabis, supply prohibited drug and stealing electricity.

 

The cannabis plants and dried cannabis had an estimated street value of more than $200,000.

 

 

The man was refused bail and will face Parramatta Local Court later today.

Signs of electrical modification were found after the house was busted. I wonder why they even looked for that in the first place? Hmmmm....maybe because of the grid leak being traced? Commercial growers using 4 rooms full of plants keep their mouths shut, buy their gear on the sly and keep to themselves.... they are Very organized.

I had friends of friends years ago in Holland that grew for the coffeeshops, all under the table shit so I know a fair bit about how commercial growers operate, as it to this day is still illegal to supply coffeeshops in holland. Crazy laws but thats how it works.

Power theft was always the way to get caught there, so a few grew in Warehouses/ workshops so they could justify the power consumption and just paid it.

Totally agree with you, Gh72.

 

The common theme with the recent commercial scale busts in power theft. I would, in a heartbeat, put my money on the power companies tipping off the police.

 

If these people weren't so greedy and used part of the income from their grow to pay their way, they'd get away with it.

I agree. I'm new to this forum but ive found that every indoor grower gets found through power theft. It just comes down to greed really. If you think you can get away with making 200k a year illegally youre pretty thick. If people want to make money from it why not just make a simple 20k a year? That's huge ontop of any wage a person would be making. That's my opinion anyway... dont be greedy.

G'day Witchseason, If you could post a link to a court case or news paper/internet story where the bust was because they traced the theft. Not where they found the mods after the bust, that would be great.

They probably wouldn't want to tip off the growers. If you have a major sting operation going on, you don't want to be giving away any secrets.
