Mixed light spectrums

Recommended Posts

Hey all

My mate and I are building a growbox out of a small chest of drawers, things are going real smoothly but we are a little up in the air about what lighting to use. Size etc taken into account, 2 x 65w CFLs seems like the way to go. Now we could save a wee bit of coin by just getting a red and a blue light and leaving it at that, as opposed to our initial plan which was to get two of either spectrum for veg and flower respectively. I was just wondering if leaving one of each colour for the duration of the grow would have any detrimental effects on our MJ, or would the difference be so minor that someone growing in a chest of drawers wouldn't notice/give a shit?

Cheers in advance

Using the wrong spectrum at the wrong time of growth wont really harm the plant

having both flower and veg lights on at the same time is fine

just that during veg, the flowering light is less effective

I think I read that MH (veg) when used for flowering is only %75 effective because its the wrong spectrum for flowering

so your 400W light would be as good as a 300W, but still the same heat and power getting chewed

I don't think it makes too much of a difference either, particularly on small grows like yours (and mine). I'm using 2 different spectrum right now as well because I broke one of my veg lights. :bleh: It wouldn't be my first choice but if that's what you can manage then it should be fine.

The only thing that I'd look out for is uneven distribution of the different spectrum of light. I have all of my plants in pots inside a big box that I can rotate a couple of times per day so that the same few plants are not always sitting under the same spectrum of light.
