OLD HPS BALLAST

Recommended Posts

Hey guys was given this old ballast by a mate today...hasnt been used for a long time and i know she is definitely 20 years old however wondering if anyone has used this Light Brigade 400W HPS ballast or knows of a reason i shouldnt use this. I know it aint as efficient as the new digitals and uses about 1 more amp in comparison but if its a good one then I might grab a cooltube and globe and give it a go.

Oh another dumb question sorry..... if i were to buy a new cooltube does the lamp holder and lead/plug to the ballast come with it?? I have only bought a full kit before so have no idea?

Thanks lads for any info that you may have

 Dude, that is a pearler! I haven't seen one of those Ballasts in YEARS and in such good condition too. Wish it was legal so we could put that in a Museum somewhere here. I would keep that, In it's day it was one of the best magnetic Ballasts.

I always say buy new gear mate, even though in my heart I would love to see that old girl fire up......... better safe than sorry, unless you got an electrician friend who can give it the once over for you.

Sorry, I'm an Electronics gimp and I love the old well kept stuff................ no electronics in that, all solid state, and they don't build em like that anymore. Great find. Peace. gh72
