I would bend out those shades you have to form more of a ( U ) shape if you know what i mean ...smoke alarm and stuff is a good idea least your thinking

 

Have you fans blowing in-between the light and plants area diffusing the heat from the plant....cover the holes in the light shades try to maximize the light

 

Do you have a LUX meter ?
