little help with my lights

Recommended Posts

I have my growspace setup under my house, measures up at 3m long x 1.5m wide x 1.8m height, so I'm using the floor of my house as the ceiling of the room. I have 2 400w HPS, 4 plants (so there is some room to move in there), 1 200mm fan blowing cool air in, another to be added tomorow to suck out the hot air.. will post pics when i can..... just thinking about how close can the lamps get to the floor of my house before it could set fire to the wooden floorboards which is the ceiling of the room?

Should I panda film over the ceiling too?

I dont want to set fire to the place trying to grow, insurance doesnt cover that sort of thing

Hi Wayno . Bit of a long as a piece of string type question in reagrds too how close they can get ..... Your the best judge of that really.

Id conside using a cooltube , reflector and fireproof insulation perhaps. Fire proof paint? I dunno...

Good luck

Have reflectors on both, they are horizontal type lamps...at the moment they are about 6inches below the floorboards..

I will keep an eye on things, going out to buy smoke alarm and fire extinguisher tomorow. have to look into cooltubes as well.... off to Cannaversity for a while :bongon:

just climb a ladder or chair and hold ya hand above the light or shade. If it burns its probably 2 close. My shade though is about 1.5in from the top of my tent. No worries.

I think 1.5in maybe at bit close..

If ya got reflectors n the globes arnt touching the wood ya sweet as, if ya can get 1000 watt hids 10-20cms from panda film, hard wooden floors will not cause u a problem :)

Thats what i wanted to hear...

i also have put up an oscillating fan to get some air circulation over the lamps and ballasts. would cooltubes be worthwhile still?

Have invested in smoke alarm and fire extinguisher... a must have for any growroom

Dont have the spare time to add the 2nd fan today  will be on to that tomorow.

Looking into the insulation, that could be the way to go, panda film over that for extra light reflection maybe :scratchin:

The lighting

Some of the plants, 1 is looking a bit sick compared to the others

G'day Wayno.

I have a 600watt HPS with a shade hanging about 2 inches from a wooden truss beam I'm using. I can leave my hand on top of the shade without getting burnt, it gets a little bit warm but nothing drastic, like an electric blanket. If it's too hot to touch, then that will be a problem. All up in my tent, which is 1.8 x 1.8 x 1.8m, I have 2 x 400 watt HPS and 1 x 600 watt HPS and the heat isn't a problem. I'm not using cool tubes, just 2 x 30cm oscillating fans and a 250mm standard ceiling exhaust fan. This keeps the temp at a constant 24c and I'm running an oil filled heater during the dark periods as it gets very cold at night. Having a smoke detector and an extinguisher is good common sense, well done. As I've found over the years, common sense isn't that common. Good luck with your grow, mate.:guitar: :guitar: :guitar:
