High risks: cannabis and psychosis

Recommended Posts

Speaking as someone who has diagnosed manic depression and Attention Deficit Disorder, I smoke weed because 1) It gives me loads of energy and I get hyperactive and 2) I'm not restricted creatively by my meds when I'm high (I'm a musician/singer/songwriter).

I have never once been paranoid whilst smoking, I've never once decided to go hedge jumping and break my ankle like I did on alcohol (haha).

The side effects i'm more concerned about are brain cells dying and causing memory loss. I noticed after a period of smoking every day for about 3 months, I started forgetting names and very basic things (this is unusual for me, as I generally have an amazingly sharp memory). Since then I've eased up smoking. I can easily go a week or two without smoking, but once I have weed, I smoke like a chimney. The other issue while smoking for me is the next day, when my chemical levels are rock bottom, that's when the depression gets bad. I'm irritable, very snappy and moody (This is usually fixed by punching another cone :P)

It's hard to say weed causes mental illness, as people with mental illness (diagnosed or undiagnosed) usually self-medicate.

CBD ( nervous calming effect ) is now known to moderate the action of THC ( psycho activating effect )

THC gradually breaks down into CBD.. fresh cannabis has more THC .. older cannabis has more CBD

if you smoke too much cannabis , you could be overloading your brain with THC.

I have experienced those situations , & I just stopped , it went away.

I have often noticed , people coming off cannabis are more than a little neurotic.

& commonly have irrational outbursts.

this is your nervous system waking up after being shutdown by THC & CBD.

cannabis is a nervous system depressant.

some people ( about 10% ) have some mental hypersensitivity , they really should not use cannabis.

a little sensible moderate use here people. not every day all day .. maybe once or twice a week.

I know you like it .. but don't abuse. all the time it just becomes a mental fog , no fun

whereas occasionally it is quite the treat & has a more pronounced effect because you haven't

built up a tolerance to it. I have tried the all the time thing. it just got tedious , dull & ineffective.

it bottoms out & having even more is just pointless.

peace on earth & good will to all.

I began smoking socially in my late teens, a little more in my twenties and have smoked everyday since my early thirties and although I did smoke too much at one stage I now only smoke at night after a hard day's work at the office as my job requires me to clear-headed. I enjoy it for a number of reasons.

There are many people who should not use any mind altering drugs such as young minds and people with mental health problems.

Drugs are a huge problem with weaker-minded people as they tend to go 'all out' and over-consume. Moderation is definately the key but some do not have the will-power to achieve this.

Everyone is different...
