Up in Smoke !

BADHABITSOZ

Question

Well, from the headline..you might consider there is a slight Cheech & Chong motif so it kinda gives away my age. I have been smoking for over 40 years all forms, cones, numbers, dry pipe, pretty much however I could get it basically. As I am now 60 and wish to continue my only one "bad-habit", for some time to come yet (fingers crossed) I started thinking about changing to vaporizers to see if I could alleviate the cough. I , gave up smoking cigs over 25 or so years ago. Lately I have had a bad cough only when smoking, weather vapour or pipe or bong....I was hoping the vapouriser would be something pretty revolutionary but sadly no, and I wasn't impressed when using the vapouriser anyway, it seemed as if there was something missing, but anyway it didn't seem to get rid of the coughs so back to the bong. I would really like to hear from others with similar experiance. I grow my own and have had only one grow but I was impressed with my yeald and am going to try again, perhaps it's just that my smoke is "raw or rough" but as I said I been doing this for a long time now and obviously have had the "coughs" before but not constantly like this...Am I just getting old or what ? Thanks..would be interested to here from anyone attachment=66528:20110412_12.JPG] BadhabitsOZ

I'm only 18 and even I know the reference. Epic movie.

Pipes, bowls or joints are a great choice. Also try inhaling through you teeth to limit the air flow so you gradually fill your lungs as opposed to ramming it with a wall of smoke on the first breath or just find a way to limit the flow so you gradually inhale. I noticed this when I was first smoking that it would reduce coughs and allow me to toke more without any worries of reaching my limit prematurely (The point at which anymore smoke causes me to cough in almost an instant). This is probably the best advice I can give. Experiment with "how" you smoke and see how it helps, I think it's almost as important as "what" you use to smoke with.

Since you're only 18 - I would honestly quit that before your teeth are horribly and permanently stained.

It will happen.

That said, slow inhalation or even...?what was it called?...(when you kind of draw the smoke into your mouth first, then inhale it slowly but not directly from the source?) would probably help in the same kind of way.

You're right about inhaling larger quantities quicker though, this brings the cough like nothing else when smoking.

By the way, good to know that a movie considered quite a bit "before my time" (I'm 30) is still being appreciated a couple of generations down, ha.

As for all you folks that cough on vapes...can't say I share your problem.

I vape only, and I cough nil...that is, unless I over-vape and things start smouldering?

Vaping is like steam cleaning for the lungs/throat. Like steam, it loosens material...at least that's what I understand from the process.

I *did* cough in the first few weeks, and bought up quite a bit of crap from my lungs...but when that process was complete it's been nothing but smoothe sailing.

There's no (or massively reduced) tar particles, the process is non carcinogenic, it tastes good and it's done nothing but improve the condition of my lungs.

Not sure how it would play out with the OP but all I can do is recommend it.

Oh I don't do that anymore. Only when I started because I didn't smoke anything. I had to use that method because it allowed me to brace myself and as I got more comfortable to the smoke I learned to control my intake properly. I was like any newbie smoker. But yeah, in the end smoking method goes a long way.
