Hi wjr,

Everybody has their own way of doing it

I keep the mother in a seperate cupboard under a single fluro

When I take clones from her, I hack her back even further than the clone

Then allow the regrowth to fill the cupboard again.

As the fluro is a fair way from the 'Mum' the regrowth takes a while. In this time I'm growing again and preparing to take clones again from the mother to establish before being planted under HID. My timings haven't been too bad with this process. But if 'Mum' gets too big, I chop her back again or take more clones and give them to mates.

My nutes for 'mum' are about 1/2 strength veg nutes around 600-800ppm and a once/day feed.

That's my method and others may disagree, but it works for me.

All of my growth is in perlite. Something inert. Soil retains nutes and salts, perlite does not. I don't want a build up of nutes in mum that may effect clones.

As for 'hacking' back, its a bit more delicate than hacking but I cut back to be level with the 2nd to last juncture. I leave that so there is leaf to absorb light and allow growth. It needs to be level with the grow point as any stem left above that point dies anyway and I have had the remaining stem turn rotten and mouldy, which ain't good for any plant or grow space.

Also my grow is SCROG. I also SCROG mum, this gives me more clone sites.

I wish that was 100% true but ya still need to flush perlite every few weeks!

Sorry CC

Maybe I should have said soil retains MORE and I fully agree with you,it all needs to be flushed and flushed well

Salt build up can cause a myraid of problems and I recommend all growers, no matter what medium they use, to flush regularly to avoid these
