Storage

Recommended Posts

There's articles in Cannaversity about drying and curing, a great source of info....

Optimal storage is actually the total absence of any effector molecules or radiation that will chemically modify active compounds - oxygen, light, heat etc. However, what most people perceive as optimal is not. Air-tight containers still contain air, so do vacuum bags.

A dodo bird told me

THC degrades in air, light and with heat, true . A good Vaccuum bag, stored in an airtight container, in a cool dark place is as close as you will get  to perfect if you store your buds long term. I actually like the taste of vaccuum sealed buds, they retain, and in some cases enhance the smell and flavour of the stored buds.

I've tried em all, from burying, freezers, fridge..... blah, blah, blah.....

Liquid nitrogens the best, if not a freezer

Liquid nitrogen will make the vegetative material brittle and your buds will crumble, same can happen to weed stored long term in a freezer.

Call me a 'mungbean' but i dont understand how leaving some moisture in buds when 'curing' over a long time in a jar doesnt make it all rot?

You need to dry the buds properly first, like at least a good week and a half, but even then there will be moisture trapped inside, when placed in the jars , the object is that 'burping' them everyday for at least 20 minutes will let the moisture in the jar out as it builds up on the glass.

You can't see it, but it's there, it also lets the last of the Chlorophil out , giving you a better taste/smell.

You stop burping every day after 2 weeks, and do it once a week for a month, then just leave them..... just be sure the jar is air tight, with a seal, or you still may get shitted up buds.

How come 'burping' new oxygen into a mason jar doesnt speed up the oxidation of your weed, but cures instead? Puzzled here.

You are in effect, still drying, it's the final stage, you are ridding the jar of stale , moist air that will cause things like mould, and replacing it with dry fresh air. The burping process doesn't go for the whole length of storage. Once most of the moisture is out, it's all good.

Everyone seems to agree that air tight is the way to go.

I was surprised to hear the in one of the greenhouse seeds official grow videos, they say to cure in a paper bag under 8-10 degrees for 3-5 months?

I wouldn't say a paper bag would be very airtight and i would have thought they would want people to cure their strains right?

Is this not recommended?
