Soil holds moisture OK but its best to mix soils if youre going to use it IMO - things like perlite and vermiculture added makes it dry out within a few days instead of a week [some soils hold a lot of water - like peat/sphagnum].

What you want to do is water when the top inch of the soil has dried again and a pot that size with nothing but a seed in it will take about a week to dry under low light. I always sugget potting-up with soil to avoid soil moisture problems - the less soil there is the less water it can hold.

If I was you Id pull those seeds up and use a plastic cup to start seeds - itll still take a few days to dry under a light so it wont be too unmanageable uness you go away for a few days.

PS. try hydro sometime - it grow a lot faster so you can learn more about what kills a plant by ditching soil for a while [im a soil grower but Ill be using expanded clay until I get enough weed to last a soil-grow - actually moss since I dont do pure organics indoors since shit can stink]. Also, make sure youre evacuating air and keep direct light/airflow/draft away for the first week as seedlings IMHO [ill be using a 48W CF 2 foot away and exhaust fan only in my seed/clone chamber].
