MH Conversion Bulbs

Recommended Posts

Im looking at replacing my 400w HPS bulb soon and getting a spare for my 600w, Both are HPS Ballasts. Tossing up between getting a 400w son-T agro HPS bulb, or a MH conversion bulb? I will be using the 400w mainly for vegging, and the 600 mainly for flower so will stick with HPS for that :)

What do yas think the best 600w HPS bulb is? Looking at getting a Son-T or any other recommendations?

DO ya think its worth getting MH conversion bulb or should I just stick with HPS and get a 400w Son-T?

Opinions appreciated

Never heard of them....? Son-T's are Phillips...? Im pretty sure anyways. They are just HPS bulbs with an extra 30 watts of the blue spectrum so they are 430 watts or some shit... Mainly want whats best for veg, if MH conversion bulb wont make a huge difference ill probz just get son-T..

G'day Burnz. I recently bought 2 Sunmaster 400 watt dual spectrum HPS for $50 each. They haven't been in use in my grow tent for very long, but I put some seedlings under them, also a 400watt MH in use, 2 days ago and some others yesterday and can see the growth in the first lot has powered away. Now the others have to catch up. :guitar: Edited by auntynorm

Heya Burnz, Yeah for the 400w go a MH conversion bulb for your HPS ballast, if your going to use it for Vegging mostly. You can also use it for extra blue towards the end of flowering.

I recommend a Philips Master HPI-T Plus 400w/645 , they last.

For the 600w HPS, yes your correct, best Imo is the Philips Powertone, is the one you want , it's Son-T Plus 600.

Hope this helps mate. :peace: Gh72

Oh, and AJ there are no combination HPS/MH bulbs that I know of, they are just HPS with added blue in the spectrum.

Maybe do a bit of reading into light spectrums and lighting mate.

Ok cool, any info on benefits of getting a MH conversion bulb though? Will one run efficiently off a Growlush 400w HPS ballast?

Will I notice much of a difference over vegging with MH conversion bulb over a Son-T HPS? Always vegged with HPS and they seem to grow nice short compact plants, so im just wondering what the actual difference would be in growth? if much? would it be noticeable?

Sorry to ramble haha :P Just wanna know what the differences will be :)

Hi ya, I changed to MH con bulbs awhile back. Best thing I have ever done. I still run 600 for veg but now with MH on my old coil boxes. I get closer internodes, much busher plants. I got a 15- 20 % yeild increase. Then change to HPS for flower. After a few nice grows, was talking to a real pedantic mate, who changes back to MH for the last weeks when of fresh water. Why you ask, resin production. Now I though it was total hogs wash, but after a few gos at it. I am sold, the lovely blue light is great for veg and resin.

Also on the point of changing you bulbs from HPS to MH, if bulb life. MH has a less of a life then HPS however if you are only using it for 4 ish weeks at a time. You have a nice new bulb for veg stage. As we all know old bulbs lose 25% of effectiveness, and 25% on dirty bulbs.

All in all there cheap only 50$ will last a long time as you only use for 4 weeks at a time. And can use old coil boxes till you upgrade to digi.
