Intake Filter?

Hi all! Very excited i finally got the grow cellar goin but i've got a question?! The cellar is 2mx1mx 2m high. hidden under the carpet inside the house with a 5in outgoing air pipe with 5in fan and carbon filter venting through the inside of the wall and out through a stink pipe through the roof to the wide world. Stealthy with no problem there that i can see, however, i have a 6in air intake moulded into the floor hidden under a bed which in the even of a raid should not be found but just wondering is there any chance the smell will filter back through the intake? do i need a filter on the intake vent or will the exhaust suck hard enough to stop any smell going backwards through the intake? just worried about a dog smelling it under the bed and then its all over for me :...( Any experienced growers help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

the idea is to use a larger exhaust than intake

creating a negative pressure

that way no air escapes

i think id e swapping the fans round

having the biggest for exhaust

Hey thanks for the input, i don't currently have any fan on the intake just the 5in on the exhaust, also i just measured again and the intake is 5in as well but it's just a bit of mesh set in the slab over a hole in the roof of the cellar, do you think it needs a fan as well cause when the trap door is down it's completely airtight, bar the 5in intake hole and the stink pipe out the roof. its better to have a smaller intake than exhaust...what sort of air draw does your exhaust get btw?

 

oh, and what sort of temperature/lights are you getting and running? all this info helps, man.

hey, the fan is a 125mm (5in) eziair 240v 21w axial fan (i believe its 250cfm but that bit might not be correct). Because its underground the temp sits at 24-26c, I have 2x 1000w mh/hps with switchable ballasts with wrinkly silver 600mm batwing type shades. (only 1 light in use though cause it seems like overkill with both) Fibro lined matt white painted walls. Do you think if I connected a smaller pipe to the bottom of the intake it would help? ie make it suck harder preventing odour escaping? Do you think a dog will still smell it if the air is sucking in real hard? Thanks for your input guys.

Billo was right not much thought needed......if ya exhaust fan is bigger than ya intake fan u will have negative pressure...if u turn ya exhaust off ya might get a wiff floating out

I would expect that if you had a dog in your house, no matter what extraction you had you would be fucked. Sorry but a dog could probably smell it before it even got in the house, IMO.

UMM yer no shit , i was just commenting on how a exhaust setup should work....dodnt think i had dignify answering about the dogs but hey here we go ..........if ya worried about that or think theres a chance of that happening dont even try to start growing

yeah, no, these dudes are right... if dogs are in your place the only thing you can HOPE to do is confuse em...
